Pretty Serious Morning Java

Morning Java is another polish from my recent Pretty Serious haul. It is only my second brown polish. And this ain't no run-of-mill coffee bean inspired brown polish, no ma'am!

Kaz and Ben, the founders and force behind Pretty Serious, being the tongue-in-cheek cultural icon mavens that they are, found inspiration for this polish in the logo for the browser plugin that runs applets. Clever kittens!

Pretty Serious describes Morning Java as a "rich coffee brown with golden bronze flecks." In my humble opinion, the color is more of a minerally mix of earth pigments and other naturally occurring browns: umber, ocher, sienna, sepia, bronze and copper. It is complex and dimensional, enlivened by deep golden microglitters that fire up like teeny sparkplugs in direct sunlight.

The texture and consistency of Morning Java is similar to 88mph and BSOD, slightly thick but easy to control, with a certain sort of loamy lightness to it. Pretty Serious polishes are bottled with a brush that is softer and more pliable than the norm and it is perfectly suited to placing and guiding their polishes on the nail. The top is tall with a textured finish that is easy and comfortable to grip, and the squared bottle with its delicately convex sides is graceful and sturdy.

As I applied Morning Java I was purring with appreciation and gratitude for these carefully engineered details of product and packaging that are such important hallmarks of integrity. It felt wonderful to be supporting them by buying and using their product. I would like to feel that way about every product I buy and use, wouldn't you?

In the photos you see two easy coats of Morning Java over basecoat with a topper of Seche Vite. The photos were taken in the changeable light of very early morning.

I bet Stacy and Clinton would, like, totally applaud this choice of polish. Don't you think? I love it and I'm proud for it to join Misa Bourbon on the Rocks as the lone browns in my polish collection.

Fuzzy studied it by the french doors in the dining room and said, look how it gets darker by the edges. Morning Java does indeed possess the sought after "lit from within" quality, where because of the curving surface of the nail and the reflective elements within the polish, it appears to glow from within when you wear it. This look gives Morning Java a certain luxurious resonance, like well-polished wood, yet I think it is still simultaneously as fashion and occasion appropriate as the friendliest neutral.

I hear that you are sassy and suntanned on vacation at the beach. ¡Que bonita chiquitita! A nice summery manicure would sure show off that tan, no? Maybe a bright lime green or a neon pink? So chic!

love,
Aunt Liz
