Too Fancy Lacquer Royal Jeans

More Too Fancy Lacquer! Today's polish is Royal Jeans, which I think of as the blue sister to Peacock Parade. This is a medium-dark murky denim blue linear holographic polish. Like Peacock Parade, Royal Jeans has extremely responsive, athletic holo effects in almost any light with an astonishing, transformative linear prismatic display in direct sun. The denim base has a certain softness to it and undertones of forest green, which enhance it's delicious murkiness. It's the kind of in-between ambiguous blue that I would certainly love even without the holo. Get it in the sun and you're treated to a marvelous linear flame of royal, cerulean and aqua blues edged with slender bands of green, yellow and red sparkling over a gleaming central semi-metallic flash of pale sea green. Stunning!

Application was fantastic. This is yet another eminently paintable, user friendly Too Fancy formula with a fluid, creamy, dense consistency, an exquisitely balanced viscosity for painting and outstanding self-leveling properties. It glides over the nail like silk velvet and is a joy to manipulate with Too Fancy's flattened flexible brush. I've never been one to finesse my application, but I can do it with polishes like this one! Pigmentation is excellent, another near one-coater. I used two coats for this manicure and had to stop myself from applying a third coat just for the pleasure of it. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with no pigment travel and no residual staining. Royal Jeans dries naturally in very good time to a smooth glossy finish. Topcoat does not diminish the holo effects in any way.

Photos show two coats of Royal Jeans over Seche Rebuild treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Using un-buffered natural light in a room setting on bright sunny days present reflection issues in my pics, and the darker the polish the more reflective it can be. When deciding on which photos to use I try to pick the ones where the reflection is least distracting, but sometimes almost all of them have distracting reflections.

I'm not sure my photos do justice to Royal Jeans. The pics in other reviews I've seen tend to show a cleaner-looking blue. This may have something to do with how it appears on different skin tones, but I believe that there are two versions of Royal Jeans out there. The newer version is described as a royal blue linear holo, which is not accurate for the color of the version I have. So maybe I have the older version. I love this muted, murky denim color! It's so wearable and sleek and flattering.

Awesome polish!

You can find Too Fancy Lacquers from a number of stockists. In the US there's Llarowe and Color4Nails, in Hong Kong there's DAZZLED (international shipping), in the UK there's Rainbow Connection and in Sweden there's Edgy Polish (international shipping). If you haven't sampled this indie brand yet, I can't say too many good things about the quality of Charlene's creations. They are the cat's meow!

love,
Liz
