Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Indikon

Indikon was released in October last year by Connecticut-based indie polish maker Octopus Party Nail Lacquer (OPNL) as part of the Fall 2015 collection, Part One. Creator Dave describes it as an indigo linear holo, and I agree. The color is a clean medium-dark indigo with a blue lean and that ineffable washed quality that makes it a great match with your favorite pair of jeans. Abundant ultrafine holographic pigment makes for responsive and athletic effects, producing a dimensionalizing demi-flare of ultramarine, azure and murky denim in ambient light. In the sun, there's a brilliant delineated display predominated by arcs of indigo and bright, sparkling azure that segues into a shimmering prismatic corona, the whole floating over a central lick of semi-metallic dusty denim.

Application was a delight. The consistency of Indikon is fluid, full-bodied and creamy with a medium viscosity and a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail -- so nice! Pigmentation is excellent, rendering wearably opaque coverage in a single coat. As with most holos, though, you'll want to add a second for richest color and to maximize the holographic effects. Cleanup is easy with no pigment travel or residual staining to speak of. Indikon dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show two coats of Indikon over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

If you're wondering how Indikon stacks up against other OPNL blues, Nichole of Bedlam Beauty has an awesome post comparing a few of them, here

This gorgeous, beautifully-formulated blue holo feels like the perfect harbinger for the clean, crisp days of fall -- I wish they were here right now!
