Glitter Gal Bloke Chaser

Bloke Chaser was released by Australian boutique polish maker Glitter Gal as part of the Aussie Slang collection last fall. This is a medium-dark creamy crimson with rose and berry tones, a deep pinkish red. It has a breath of milkiness to it that gives it a rich, velvety vibe. I love rosy berry reds and this one is just lovely, deep enough to be mistaken for carmine in dim light and shadow but bright and feminine in direct light. I picked this up at Llarowe along with a few other Glitter Gals at a most excellent sale price of only $3 -- sale still running!

Application was great! The consistency of Bloke Chaser is fluid, creamy and dense with a smooth glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. It is user friendly and easily manipulated with Glitter Gal's round, short, flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good. This polish is a bit more translucent than I'm used to with a creme, more of a creme/jelly hybrid. The color deepens with each coat, so even application is a must. Not my forte! I ended up using three coats for an opacity that I was happy with, although I wouldn't say its as even as I would like. If you look closely, you'll see the difference in tone across my nails, especially noticeable on my left pinky nail, which clearly got thicker coats than the others on that hand. Cleanup was a somewhat messy affair, with pigment travel and residual staining as you might expect from a saturated red and my shaky-hands application. Bloke Chaser dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful slick, glossy finish. Nice!

Photos show three coats of Bloke Chaser over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is great red for summer, it has the right kind of impact and isn't too dark. It feels very chatty on the nail, like it has some delicious gossip and funny stories to share. Very much the extrovert, and so pretty!

Glitter Gal Nuddy Nude

Nuddy Nude was released by venerable Australian indie polish maker Glitter Gal as part of the Blooming Babes collection for spring 2014. This is a wonderful light putty or griege creme with a barely there pinkish tone that keeps it to the cooler side of neutral. It's the kind of color that might have a name like almond or biscotti or bone if it was a house paint, a creamy softened off-white that gets along with everything. With its pink and grey tones it's a great nude for pale, cool-toned complexions, and even manages to look deliciously sleek and fresh on my ruddy digits. Its gentle presence sets it apart from starker whitened shades, and it has a delicacy and sweetness that I find particularly endearing.

Application was pretty nice. The consistency of Nuddy Nude is fluid, super creamy and dense with a buttery glide over the nail. It doesn't self-level immediately. Rather, it self-levels as it sets up and you can actually watch it do this, pretty remarkable for a whitened shade. Pigmentation is very good, with some streakiness that is par for the course for a white-based color, especially on the first coat. Things improve with the second and what doesn't come together for evenly opaque coverage after the third will be smoothed out and taken care of by a good topcoat. My only quibble with the formula is that it doesn't self-level enough to prevent all of my nail ridges from showing beneath the polish, but it comes close and still manages to look great in person so I forgive this small sin. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Nuddy Nude dries naturally in very good time to a slick glossy finish.

Photos show three coats of Nuddy Nude over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. Somehow two small fibers sneaked their way into the topcoat of my left index finger nail. We curses them!

The timeless, chic beauty of the delicately-hued neutral! Reminds me of milky tea or some sort of almond or maple flavored sweet and is very becoming on the nail, clean and tidy but softly so. Nuddy Nude is one of what I love to call character shoe polishes, after the flesh-colored, suede-soled, strappy pumps by Capezio (and others) that dancers and actors wear. I always wanted a pair of those clean-looking, leg-elongating shoes! They always look so delicate and graceful on, just like this polish.

If you're interested in getting your hands on some Glitter Gal, Llarowe has its complete Glitter Gal stock on sale at the time of this writing -- cremes, shimmers, holos, color-shifters, topcoat and all! The regular price is already very reasonable for a 10ml bottle of indie polish from Oz, now they're a steal.

Glitter Gal Belgian Chocolate and Blue Suede Shoes

I've got two holos from Oz for you, Eleanor: Belgian Chocolate and Blue Suede Shoes by Australian indie polish maker Glitter Gal. They are both linear holographic polishes, meaning that the holo particles are microfine and produce a linear prismatic flair in direct light.

Glitter Gal's holo polishes dry naturally to a silky smooth satiny sheen. Both polishes are beautifully formulated, apply easily and well and dry very quickly. I added topcoat to both manicures for gloss, color emphasis and scratch protection.

Belgian Chocolate is a rich dark burgundy brown with a distinct purple emphasis in its holo flair. In shade it is a deep dense wine color with golden graining and a silky look. In sunlight, each finger nail transforms into a jewel-like burst of chocolate brown with an intense holographic rainbow flash. Incredibly dramatic and beautiful, this one would be wonderful on your mom's toes!

The dark silky color of Belgian Chocolate gives it a rich luxurious feel on the nail and there is a sort of mysterious elegance to it that is very romantic. In the sun it is just startlingly beautiful and irresistible to the eye. The prismatic blue and violet colors are particularly strong and look fabulous against the brown.

Blue Suede Shoes is by comparison relatively delicate, a lovely translucent light sky blue with hints of periwinkle. I love and adore this color! It reminds me very much of milky blue depression era glass or light blue porcelein or glass enamel, it has the same sort of luminosity to it. The holographic flair in Blue Suede Shoes is just as strong as it is in Belgian Chocolate but it's not as overt if that makes any sense. I think it has to do with the translucent quality of Blue Suede Shoes' blue color. If you view the surface of the nail in direct light from a very low angle, you will see a robust linear prismatic flair. But the holo effects can seen, if faintly, from any angle and in almost any lighting situation.

Prrrrretty! I like it very much. It's a very complimentary cool shade of blue, especially in the summer. There's a soothing quality to this polish despite it's holographic character and it sits lightly on the nail. It reminds me of those days where the sky is essential clear except for way up in the stratosphere where you have a light thin wispy layer of cirrus clouds.

Glitter Gal has a large line of holo colors, including a fan favorite dark green holo called Lizard Belly. Perhaps I'll have to target that one for an upcoming Glitter Gal purchase, eh? Because I think you need a green holo for your own collection.

Aunt Liz
