Nire's Desire Original Sin-amon

Today I have the last polish from my recent Nire's Desire spree, Original Sin-amon. Erin says, "Reminiscent of leaves and spiced tea this color is a red with brown undertones," but I prefer to think of it as a rosy copper although it's not a metallic. It's a beautiful medium-toned blend of red, brown and copper in a shimmer format. On the nail it has a bright center that darkens around the edges, giving it that lit from within look. It's rare that you find a polish in a coppery shade that isn't metallic and doesn't have a burnt orange look. But there you go.

Application was great. The consistency is fluid and dense and a little sticky, but not overly so. Pigmentation is excellent with near opacity in one medium coat but you'll want two for full depth and richness of color. I used medium coats, wrapped the tips on the first coat only and had no problems with the appearance of brushstrokes, despite my tendency to overwork the polish. You wouldn't guess it from my photos but cleanup is easy and straightforward. Original Sin-amon dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Original Sin-amon over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The longer I wore this polish the more it grew on me. It reminds me of coppery red freshwater pearls, it has that same sort of silky nacreous luster to it that just blooms as light plays over it. Earthy and luxe at the same time, a beautiful rendition of the autumnal russet. Very nice!

Nire's Desire Megashira

Megashira is an as-of-yet unreleased polish by indie polish maker Nire's Desire. Erin, who picked this one out for me to try, tells me this is one of husband Toby's creations. Since he is also responsible for the murky blue masterpiece that is Transatlantic, it should come as no surprise that Megashira is also a deeply cool polish.

Megashira is a medium-dark bold blue-violet shimmer polish with a duochromatic twist. It has a dark-purple tinted transparent jelly base chock full of blue shimmer and pink microflakes, which work together synergistically to produce an unexpected and intense royal purple color shift. Depending on the lighting, this puppy can appear bright blue with violet leanings or a brilliant royal purple. Possibly there are duochromatic pigments in here, but I really think this shift is primarily accomplished by genius component mechanics. It doesn't have a true duochrome's sliding change, where you tip your nails to see it. With Megashira, the purple just begins to grow around the edges as the light changes and then bam, there it is. Plus, in full sun it scintillates with sparks of blue and pink.

Application was a change from the holos of the last four days. The consistency of Megashira is fluid and thin, with a propensity to flood if you touch brush to cuticle, which I of course did a couple of times. No worries, as this polish cleans up easily, but but a thin, carefully applied first coat will serve you well. That first coat is very sheer going on, and I was expecting this to be a three coater -- I was wrong! With the second coat I got completely opaque even coverage with no visible brushstrokes, no streakiness or patching, no bubbling or any other bad polish behavior. It even handled my nail ridges well. Megashira dries naturally in average time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Megashira over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl. I don't know why my fingers are so freakin' florid in some of the photos, but the polish color is true so I let them be.

Normally I like my shimmers on the chunky, glass fleck side but I'm really digging this polish and I'll tell you why. The blue in it reminds me very much of the paint on my beloved '98 Volkswagen Golf, Troubador (doesn't everybody name their cars?), RIP. It's a little different in that Troubador's color had a shimmery cerulean undercurrent to it rather than the purple of Megashira, but the bold blue sparkle is so like Troubadour's that I'm totally transported back to my auto detailing days looking at it. Dark shimmery blues are very rewarding to work on for a detailer, not quite as much as reds in my opinion but the results can be incredible and really make all of your hard work worth it.

This polish also totally reminds me of Phyrra, of the eponymous blog Phyrra Beauty for the Bold. If you read her blog, you know what I'm talking about. I think she would adore this.

For me, I love how manifestly bold and full of itself this polish is! It's an eyecatcher and not the least bit sorry about it, and it has a powerful, energetic feel on the nail, like someone with coattails you'd like to hang on to. I love its depth and personality. It's actually unique in my well-populated stable of purples.

Keeper!

Nire's Desire Revel

Today's holographic offering from indie polish maker Nire's Desire is Revel. I first saw this polish swatched by the effervescent Debbie of The Crumpet, and I'm certain that I wasn't the only one smitten with it. In fact, I'm willing to bet there was a run on Revel after the awesome photos Debbie posted. As you know, it was Transatlantic that finally blew my self-control to smithereens, but I wasn't going to leave that etsy store without including a bottle of Revel in my purchase.

Revel is a deep purple holo with Nire's Desire's signature rich dimensional color, fantastic user-friendly formula and blazing prismatic display. This is a dark royal purple with violet leanings to it and plenty of blue nuancing thanks to the interplay between base color and holo pigments. As you would guess, it's stunning.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, application was wonderful. Or, it surely would have been had I not succumbed to the fetching wiles of our eight month old kitteh, Picchio, right before I began to paint. Never do this! It's so funny, as I was giving him a little chin scritch I was thinking, I wonder if I'm getting hairs on my fingers. Well, yeah! No matter how enchanting the beast, if you pet it you will pick up hairs and I guarantee that they will make their presence known during your manicure.

da kitteh, not entirely pleased with the interruption to his naptime (you can tell when he's getting riled because his eyes begin to turn a demonic orange)

So there I was, applying this beautiful fluid, creamy, dense polish when I began to notice fluffy downy little hairy filaments clinging to my nail environs and dipping themselves surreptitiously (or not) into the freshly painted lacquer on my nails. Suffice to say I was forced to spend a good bit of time extracting and repairing. But the good news is that in the process I learned just how forgiving Revel is. A reparative dab of polish to any blemished spot quickly subsides and melts into the polish around it. Need to fill out a line where you left too much of a gap? You can do that too without any obvious overlap. Huzzah!

Pigmentation is fantastic. For all practical purposes Revel is a one coater although I did two. I had a variety of cleanup to do after the hair extractions and can report that despite the bits of purple here and there in the pics that got overlooked, the process is trouble-free and non-staining. Revel dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Revel over treatment and basecoat with a slightly bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite. I was a little flustered from picking cat hairs out of my mani and overworked the topcoat. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Yup. Taking topcoating for granted, that's a thing, right? Am I the only one who needs to stop doing that? Really?

Also, please forgive my somewhat tattered nail environs. It's been too long since my last rendezvous with cuticle remover.

Revel has the sort of "glory in the flower" capacity to make purple new again in circumstances when you may have become jaded. Even if you haven't, it will remind you of why and just how much you love purple on your nails. As Erin says in her description of this polish, it's rich shimmering royalty in a bottle, deep enough to hint at vampiness but not so deep as to ever be mistaken for black. Bold enough to sate your thirst for novel colors but not in the least be overdone. A feast for the eyes with a healthy portion of awesome to warm the cockles of your polish enthusiast's heart. That's Revel.

Nire's Desire Love Comes Again

Like We Are Alive, Love Comes Again was released by Colorado-based indie polish maker Nire's Desire as part of the Techno Collection Phase One. It is a glamorous medium-dark red violet holo with burgundy undertones and a strong holographic flair. As with Jezebel and We Are Alive, Love Comes Again is richly dimensional and exhibits a variety of analogous color nuancing: blue, violet, royal purple, plum, deep fuchsia, burgundy and red all make appearances, often simultaneously. In some lights it even throws a brilliant copper flash! This is a dramatic, passionate, mercurial polish with a bold character and a fiery heart.

Application was wonderful. I won't know how to act when I come across a fussy polish again! The consistency of Love Comes again is fluid, light, silky and easy to manipulate, with superb flow over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is outstanding. I believe you could possibly get away with one coat of this one, but I used two. Love Comes Again sets quickly and I found it wanting to pull patches if overworked while wet, but it applies so smoothly and easily there should be little need for more than your basic three strokes. I'm in the habit of wrapping my tips with every coat, but with these Nire's Desire polishes I've amended that to wrapping on the first coat only so I'm not messing around with my tips on the second. Love Comes Again dries naturally in very good time to a lovely glossy finish. As with the other holos from this brand, topcoat did not diminish or detract in any way from the holographic properties.

Look at that rainbowy holographic goodness! Wearing this in direct sun is like having fireworks explode on your tips. I don't know what kind of holo pigments they use at Nire's Desire, but it's good stuff! And once again we have a beautiful composition with a carefully balanced ratio of color to holographic pigments. Enough color to provide for a rich, vibrant base and enough holo for gorgeous prismatic nuancing of the base and an incendiery holographic display in direct light.

If you love purple, burgundy or deep reddish purple polishes generally, you need Love Comes Again in your life!
