Colors by Llarowe Twinkling Lights

Twinkling Lights was just released this month by Colorado-based indie polish maker Colors by Llarowe as part of the Holiday 2016 collection. It has a translucent light blue-grey base filled with ultrafine silver holographic microglitters and cobalt blue microflake shimmers. It's a real snowy day sort of color that combines a leaden sky with the icy pale blue of snow shadows, and has a pointillistic appearance on the nail. The cobalt blue shimmers are a genius touch, they bolster the blue to keep it from being too washed out by the silver microglitters, which emit a delicate silvery sparkle in ambient light and blanket the nail in tiny twinkling prismatic sparks under direct light.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of Twinkling Lights is fluid, full-bodied and quite smooth for a microglitter-laden polish, with a medium viscosity and an even, self-leveling spread over the nail. Coverage is provided in large part by the microglitters, and looked best on my significantly stained nails in three coats, although I'm sure some folks, particularly those with shorter nails or whose nails are stain free, will be happy with two. I did my cleanup as I went along and had no issues. Twinkling Lights dries naturally in very good time to a flat, gently textured finish that is easily smoothed with a single generous layer of topcoat.

Photos show three coats of Twinkling Lights over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and KBShimmer Fillin' Groovy basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I am in love with this look! It feels quite apropos on this chilly, rainy December day -- I can only imagine how perfectly suited this would be to snowy weather! When it's not in direct light, it reminds me a lot of a topcoated Zoya Nyx, if you remember that one from Zoya's initial PixieDust release back in 2013. They share the same wintry blue-grey color and delicate sparkle, although I believe Twinkling Lights has more blue to it than Nyx.

love,
Liz
