Don Deeva Vicious Denim

Vicious Denim was released, I'm pretty sure, in February this year by Florida-based indie polish maker Don Deeva as a stand-alone polish. Creator Danette describes it as "a metallic blue flake with holographic and a delicate shimmer." The color is a semi-translucent, medium-dark steel blue with aspects of cornflower and sapphire. Holographic pigment gives it a shimmering, finely-grained visual texture and dimensionalizes the look on the nail -- slightly lighter in the center shading to a deeper Atlantic blue color at the edges. Tiny blue metallic microflakes read as kind of a French sky blue within the base, glistening as light travels over them and imparting a gentle, semi-metallic sheen to the look. The color appears to brighten in the sun, where it's veiled with fine scattered prismatic sparkle and a vestigial linear prismatic flare, slightly dispersed by the microflakes.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of Vicious Denim is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity and an easy, fluent, self-leveling glide over the nail, a lovely formula that just kind of floats on like a silky piece of lingerie. So nice! Pigmentation is very good, building to even, opaque coverage in two coats. I added a third to see if it made a difference and to my eye it added a bit of density and oomph to the color. Cleanup was easy, even with the microflakes. Vicious Denim dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat accentuates the presence and effects of those blue metallic microflakes.

Photos show three coats of Vicious Denim over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I love this gorgeous, graceful, shimmering blue, it's delicious! It's bold and expressive but not pushy, with an elegant, refined quality on the nail and a kind of oceanic sensibility, a resonant, deep water vibe that is just irresistible to me. Blue-lovers, take note!

  1. That's a really beautiful blue. I have not tried any Don Deevas but I know that I should because all I see from her are gorgeous polishes.

    1. I loved this one. Danette makes some amazing effects polishes, especially thermals, and gives them spicy names. You're probably already a member of Don Deeva's large, active fan group on Facebook -- that's the best way to find out what's happening with the brand.
