Zoya Song
Song was released by Zoya as part of the Diva collection for fall 2012. Officially described as a "bold vibrant medium primary blue with silver and blue glittery metallic sparkle," this is a medium-dark well-saturated sapphire blue with tiny reflective microflake shimmers that read as a brighter metallic blue from within the jewel-toned depths of the polish. Song is at its most brilliant and powerful in bright indirect light, but is also incredibly beautiful in dim light and shade, where it takes on a true deep royal blue appearance. It's a bold, rich statement color with a bright romantic glamor to it, the kind of polish that could very well be deemed an accessory rather than simply nail color. It just has that kind of pop and presence.
Application of Song was amazing. The consistency is on par with Zoya's best: fluid, creamy and dense with a perfect balance of fluidity and viscosity for painting. It has an smooth, effortless flow over the nail and is easily manipulated with Zoya's round, flexible brush. Self-leveling properties are outstanding as is the pigmentation -- with an appropriately loaded brush this polish is a one-coater, but two will add depth and extra shimmer, especially if done in thin coats. Song dries naturally in average time to a smooth shiny finish that looks even better with a nice thick glossy topcoat.
Photos show two coats of Song over treatment and basecoat with a nice thick glossy topcoat of Seche Vite. No bubbles, huzzah!

Song is a perfect bright blue for fall. It reminds me of September babies, who have sapphire as their birthstone. All while I was growing up I wished I'd been born in September instead of May because I wanted sapphire as my birthstone instead of emerald. Wah, Matlock! I still prefer sapphires to emeralds as gemstones because sapphires come in MANY colors and fine emeralds are so rare and expensive, but I love both as colors.
love,
Liz
And I always wanted emerald as my birthstone!! :) I love Song so much yet I have never worn it out in public . For some reason I am drawn to blue polish yet never seem to have any blue clothes to match. Not to mention I always make a colossal mess with it. It looks flawless on you!
ReplyDeleteThe birthstone's always greener on the other side of of the, uh, calendar? Which birthstone were you willing to forego for emerald, Melissa?
DeleteI love blue polish. There was a time not long ago when I thought blue polish was too edgy for me, but my aesthetic expanded and it's become one of my favorite comfort colors. Think of it as an accent, especially if you wear many warmer-toned shades likes red, rust, gold, brown. Blue is a beautiful complement to brown. And black, of course!
Thank you for that compliment! Actually I DID make a mess with this polish! *lol* The remnants are there if you look closely, but most of what you see in these pics is the result Herculean cleanup efforts and I originally had several long-winded, somewhat whiny sentences devoted to the particulars but deleted them without mercy. Ha!
My nails are too small for much cleanup. Ugh.
DeleteAnd that would be garnet, which also comes in many colors. :P
My hands are too shaky not to do cleanup! I have a perfect tiny cleanup brush I could send you for those petite nails, if you like. :) Also an extra bottle of Barielle Falling Star, if you haven't yet slayed that lemming. Let me know!
DeleteOh yes, I love garnets, especially spessartites, the orange ones. I made a necklaces once out of rough slices of black garnet, that stuff was killer. I wonder what happened to that necklace.... hmm....
