Superchic Lacquer Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf

Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf is my third and last pick from the Into the Woods collection recently released by indie polish maker Superchic Lacquers. As with Witches Agenda for Uberness and Baker's Hunger for a Bun in the Oven, Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf is a complex shimmer polish sprinkled with a modicum of holographic particles. It has a translucent lightly-tinted coffee-colored base carrying abundant flaky silver shimmers and relatively large brown pigment particles as well as shimmers in turquoise and bright red. The look is a silver-flecked dark coffee brown or taupe with a silvery flash and speckles of red and turquoise as well as a subtle shimmering rainbow of sparks from the holographic particles.

Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr. Wolf has a gel-like formula that I found very difficult to apply evenly, even after I added some polish thinner to it. It's not especially sticky or goopy but it is thick. Additionally, this polish is very, very sheer and takes multiple coats to reach opacity -- for me it was four and I use medium coats. It's the sort of polish that you actively spread on the nail, it doesn't have the fluidity that gives a polish that gentle flow. And I had small patches, mostly at the shoulder of my fingertips but also around the curve of the cuticle, where the polish didn't want to stick to the nail so I had to go back after the first couple of coats with a bit of polish on the brush and dab it in to fill those areas (some more successfully than others). Luckily this is a user friendly polish in that respect and my patches melted into the rest of the polish and left no trace afterwards. But I still found myself having to carefully inspect the edges of each nail to make sure the polish was where I wanted it to be. The flexible bristles of the brush felt almost too soft to properly manipulate the polish. Cleanup wasn't difficult but brown pigment particles were left behind and I found them rather tedious to remove. Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf dries naturally in very good time, thankfully, to a smooth but slightly flat finish that definitely benefits from the addition of a glossy topcoat.

Photos show four coats of Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

It wasn't until I applied topcoat that I actually began to appreciate this cool shimmery dark taupe. The color is understated, elegant and flattering and the subtle sparkling of the shimmers is very beautiful. It reminds me of a horse color we used to call liver chestnut, a dark brown with a silvery flaxen mane and tail. I rode a pony named Little John for a year or so when I was in middle school who was a liver chestnut and I adored his coloring, so I have a soft spot for coffee browns and dark taupes that are grey-toned or silvery rather than golden.

Bedtime Nom Noms for Mr Wolf takes topcoat particularly well. The polish has thoroughly dried and my nails are nice and glossy, which I like. I appreciate the complex mix of pigments and shimmers that are present and I wish they were more noticeable from a distance. I also wish the jellyish base of this polish was more pigmented as it would make application quicker and easier, but then we might not be able to get the full impact of all of the shimmers against that gorgeous coffee brown.

love,
Liz
