Smitten Polish Cauldron Bubble

Vibrant night sky with lots of stars, beside a tree's silhouette, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, by Michael J. Bennett

Cauldron Bubble was released by indie polish maker Smitten Polish as part of the Halloween Duo in October this year. Noelie, the owner and creative force behind Smitten, says, "Cauldron Bubble is a black jelly with just the barest hint of a purpley blue cast - a cooler toned black, filled with super fine holographic microglitter." I can hardly believe how finely milled Noelie's microglitters are, just powdery fine. Cauldron Bubble, with its blackened indigo-toned jelly base, twinkles like a night sky filled with the tiniest of rainbow colored stars. It is less overtly sparkly than Smitten's Penny Dreadful, which I featured on this blog last week, but still breathtaking, especially in direct sun.

Application was great! Cauldron Bubble has a slightly thicker consistency than Penny Dreadful so I added a bit of polish thinner to it as Noelie recommends to make it more fluid, but it is butter smooth and applies with an even, self-leveling flow over the nail. This is a user-friendly polish and very easy to control and manipulate. Pigmentation is excellent for a jelly, with completely even, opaque coverage delivered with two medium coats. Cleanup is a snap! Cauldron Bubble dries naturally in very good time to a slightly sandy, matte finish that wants a generous layer of topcoat to look its best.

Photos show two coats of Cauldron Bubble over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

On the nail, Cauldron Bubble will appear black to all but the keenest eye but the skosh of indigo in it gives it a lighter feel on the nail than I expected. Those tiny holo microglitters make it the perfect midnight sky polish, and even when it's not in its full glory in direct light I still felt like I had a tiny bit of the cosmos on each nail....

love,
Liz
