ILNP Shoreline
Shoreline is part of the Summer 2015 collection released by boutique polish maker ILNP at the beginning of the month. This polish has a base color that's a pale tint of aquamarine blue, a little more green than celeste, carrying superabundant silver flakies and plentiful finely-milled holographic pigment as well as a dusting of fine pink particle shimmers. It's like a dreamy pale aqua version of the beautiful silvered lilac polish Happily Ever After from the Spring 2015 collection. The silver flakes have a slightly tarnished golden aspect in the aqua base and are highly reflective, providing a dappled foily finish as well as boosting the sparkle power of the glorious linear prismatic display that reveals itself in direct sun. But I find this polish at its most beautiful in low light, where the base combines with the shading effects of the holo, the pink shimmers and the silver flakes to produce a fantastical melange of subtle twilight hues. Shifting hints of pink, violet, golden green, silvery grey and bright watery blue combine with the aqua to produce a delicate, washed feel like a watercolor painting. The closer you get to Shoreline, the more magical it becomes.
Application was Awesome with a capital A. The consistency of Shoreline is fluid, light and smooth, with a nearly effortless glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. This polish seems to prefer going on in thin coats, but it's so easy to work with that it all but paints itself onto your nails, and the silver flakes lay perfectly flat without tumbling or protrusions over the free edge. Pigmentation is very good, with completely even, opaque coverage available in two thin coats. Cleanup is all about the silvery flakes, which disperse wholesale across the nail environs at contact with acetone, and sweep up off of one area only to redeposit on another. Best to put your efforts into producing the cleanest manicure possible at the outset. Shoreline dries naturally in good time to a silky smooth, shiny finish.

I was a bit apprehensive about Shoreline when it first arrived. However much I love silver flakes, their density here is such that the base color of the polish looked a little washed out to me in the bottle, like it wanted to be aqua but just couldn't quite get there. The further I got into my manicure, however, the more I cottoned to the antiqued aqua coloring, and the more I loved the gentled, painterly quality of its look in combination with the components. By the time I finished the manicure, I was completely won over.
There's delicate, faerie-like aspect to Shoreline in spite of the vigor of the silver flakes and holo pigment. The aqua-tinted foily finish is fresh and cool in the shade and lights up with a sparkling prismatic flare in the sun, perfect for summer. I bet this polish would cut a pretty picture knifing through the water in the pool!
love,
Liz
You've made a convert of me - now I need this polish! I'm liking that washed out in a good way aqua look. But then again, aquamarine doesn't have that much color either. I do love bright polishes but then sometimes I like them to be quieter. Although with the silver flakies, I don't think it will be very quiet!
ReplyDeleteYou got that right! Shoreline is kind of dichotomous; it's got lots of flash but is chromatically reserved and subtle. I'm not really into conventional metallics but I love the visual texture in the reflectivity of the silver flakies, it reminds me a little of tin foil that's been crumpled and then smoothed out. The aquamarine has this effect of creeping to the surface between the flakes, it's a very crafted kind of look. Plus there's that holo. If you like silver polishes, you'll probably really enjoy this one!
DeleteOkay I wanted this polish enough on my own, but after reading these gorgeous words while still in Alaska it became this visceral NEED and I haven't stopped thinking about it since!! Your description is impossibly beautiful. This polish is just so elegant on you, Liz! It reminds me a bit of Miss Grey's dress in Sense & Sensibility <3
ReplyDeleteNow this is a very Marisa polish! It's got that silvery faerie-like quality that would suit your aesthetic to a tee. Thanks for the compliment, m'dear! I enjoyed wearing this.
