Pretty Serious The Pink One

The true origins of The Pink One are somewhat shrouded in mystery, but I know it was released (though perhaps this was a re-release) in 2013 by Australian indie polish maker Pretty Serious Cosmetics as part of the Seriously Random collection. I believe it later survived a "keep it or chuck it" vote by Pretty Serious customers and is now part of the Seriously Classic collection. In any case, it's safe to say that this heart-stoppingly bright pink shimmer with its stunning blue flash is here to stay, hooray!

I've seen The Pink One referred to as a Barbie pink and I've seen it referred to as a neon pink. It's a little bit rosier and brighter than what I think of as Barbie pink, and though it probably does contain neon pigment, there isn't the amount of white in there with it to create the fluorescent, light-absorbing qualities of a true neon. I'd call the color a deep -- but not dark -- lush saturated rosy pink bearing abundant deliciously flecky electric blue shimmers. Semi-metallic and reflective, they have a scintillating sparkle in the sun and bloom radiantly from within the polish giving it dimensionality and a gorgeous blue flash.

Application was awesome. The consistency of The Pink One is fluid, light and creamy with a silky smooth slip over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. It's one of those lovely formulas that go right where you put it and stay there, and is easy to manipulate with Pretty Serious' round flexible brush. Pigmentation is outstanding with wearably opaque coverage in one coat, if you are so inclined. I used two because I always have some finessing to do after the first coat. Cleanup is surprisingly easy. No pigment travel to speak of and no staining, just a little stickiness on the part of the shimmers. The Pink one dries naturally in good time to a smooth, satiny matte finish that definitely wants a nice topcoat to intensify the presence and effects of the shimmers and generally look its best.

Photos show two coats of The Pink One over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

As bright and fierce as it looks in these photos, The Pink One is even more stunning in person. It is so brilliant and fresh and in-your-face that even Fuzzy, an avowed anti-pinkist who has been known to utter abominations like "just say NO to pink," couldn't help herself. "Wow! I love it!"

There have been many bright pinks with blue shimmers created since the introduction of the The Pink One, but it was one of the first and to me is still the reigning queen of this combo. If you love pink and don't have this one in your collection, what are you waiting for? You need this!

love,
Liz
