Emily de Molly Reset Button

Reset Button was released last April by Australian indie polish maker Emily de Molly as one of seven new stand-alone polishes for April 2016. Described as a bright red-based purple holo, the color starts out as a medium-light orchid purple shade and deepens with topcoat to a dark orchid or Munsell purple, a peculiarity also shared by Colors by Llarowe's Living on Borrowed Time, which you saw here a week or so ago. There must be something in the chemical make up of one of the pigments used in these polishes that causes it to react to topcoat this way. Back to Reset Button, the color after topcoat is a lush and vibrant purple that I really love so I don't mind the change at all. Finely-milled holographic pigment dimensionalizes it with hues of blue and floral lavender in ambient light, and direct sun generates a vestigial but sparkly scattered prismatic display predominated by bright azure.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of Reset Button is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and an even, smooth, self-leveling glide over the nail that has a bit of pull to it unless you load the brush generously. Pigmentation is very good to excellent, with evenly opaque coverage in one coat and full bottle color in two. Cleanup is easy. Reset Button dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, flat finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best. However, topcoat does deepen the color.

Photos show two coats of Reset Button over basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

As I mentioned above, I love this color. To my eye, it is a perfectly stunning bright medium purple that reminds me so much of Mardi Gras I can almost feel the beads around my neck! This is a most welcome addition to my stash, especially since I gave my bottle of CbL's Living on Borrowed Time to one of the pharmacy assistants at my CVS who admired it on my nails. Reset Button's holographic effects are slightly more dispersed, but the glorious, effusive color is a spot on match. If you missed Living on Borrowed Time or if you're a purple polish enthusiast generally, Reset Button is currently available for purchase on Hayley's US website. Get it! It will make your eyes happy!

love,
Liz
