Mod Lacquer Atomic Age

Like yesterday's World of Tomorrow, Atomic Age was released by indie polish maker Mod Lacquer as part of the World's Fair collection in September 2014. This is a deep plummy purple scattered holographic polish. In low light and shade, it has a slightly dusty look from the medium-sized holographic particles, and shows a red lean that gives it a sophisticated deep wine color. But in the sun, it explodes with sparkling color. Twinkling prismatic hues of indigo, blue, green, yellow and red create a nearly linear holographic flair, surrounded by bright sparks in shades of purple, red-violet and berry. Gorgeous!

Application was similar to World of Tomorrow, which is to say: fantastic! The consistency of Atomic Age is fluid, light and creamy with a silky, self-leveling flow over the nail. This is a user-friendly polish, amenable to thin or thicker coats without running, bubbling or pooling. Pigmentation is very, very good, with completely even opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with a tiny bit of pigment travel but no residual staining. Atomic Age dries naturally in fairly good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that wants a good topcoat to look its best. Topcoat does not in any way diminish the holographic properties of this polish.

From what I've seen, creator Jennifer makes some kick-ass linear holos as well, but I sure do love these scattered holos. I love the abundance of differently colored flecks, the organic quality that a scattered holo has. Atomic Age is particularly beautiful. The base is nice and rich, and I adore the way it comes alive in direct light.

Well done!

Mod Lacquer World of Tomorrow

World of Tomorrow was released by Austin TX-based indie polish maker Mod Lacquer as part of the World's Fair collection in September 2014. This is a gorgeous medium olivine scattered holographic polish. The holographic particles are of a medium size, small enough to deliver a delineated prismatic display in the sun and large enough to give that display a noticeable boost of extra sparkle. In addition they add some lovely tonal shading to the olivine base, which has the delicious finely grained appearance common to scattered holos with each fleck seemingly contributing a slightly different hue of yellow-green. The prismatic display has a central flush of grassy green trimmed with a slender twinkling band of bright aqua, lime, orange and red sparks before deepening to avocado at the edges of the nail. On the nail, the olivine has an easy-going quality that makes it eminently wearable while still providing the rich color you want from a yellow-green polish.

Application was a delight. The consistency of World of Tomorrow is fluid, light and creamy with a gentle glide over the nail and excellent self leveling properties. The polish gives the impression it was formulated expressly for the smoothest, easiest application possible, and marries perfectly with Mod Lacquer's flattened flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good with completely even opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. World of Tomorrow dries naturally in average time to a smooth finish that loves a glossy topcoat to look its best. Topcoat does not diminish the holographic properties in any way.

Creator Jennifer calls this scattered holo formula "3D holographic." Beautifully formulated, it seems to have the perfect mix of medium-sized holographic particles and color pigment to produce a lively, dimensional look while maintaining rich color. And the sparkle in direct sun is wonderful!
