Butter London Jack the Lad

I have a fabulous GREEN polish to show you in this post, Eleanor. It's a dark green shimmer polish by Butter London called Jack the Lad.

Butter London describes Jack the Lad as an "opaque, moss green shimmer with gold, turquoise, and green microglitter." Sounds like hot mess, no? Rest assured it is not. I would describe this polish as a blackened bottle green shimmer with tiny golden, blue-green and emerald microshimmers mixed in. It's not glitter as you would typically think of glitter. The tiny shardlike particles are very flat and smooth. Together, they create a tarnished foresty mini mozaic on the nail.

Jack the Lad has a transparent lightly tinted black base that contains the shimmers so it is somewhat sheer going on and is prone to balding, or catching up shimmer on a restroke and moving it creating a bare spot. I had to try and curb my bad habits of overworking the polish on the nail and applying additional coats without allowing sufficient dry time. But Jack the Lad is a very forgiving polish and allows you to patch bald spots evenly and smoothly.

For this manicure I applied two coats of Jack the Lad over my basecoat duo of Seche Rebuild and Essie First Base. I topped it with a coat of Seche Vite. Jack the Lad is a very photogenic polish and I took a lot of pictures.

Isn't this a beauty? I tried to capture a bit of the sparkle from the microshimmers as the bright green and blue do flash in direct sunlight but it was hard to get a picture of that where the depth of the polish wasn't washed out. I think Jack the Lad is exceptionally attractive and elegant and also companionable. Wearing it is kind of like being befriended by a beautiful forest dryad who offers to accompany you wherever you wish to go. The tarnished look that the black base adds is especially wonderful. It helps to create the lovely mozaic look of the shimmers that adds so much to the visual appeal of this polish.

Do you love it? I do too! Green and blue are my favorite polish colors and this one is a beautiful combination of both. What's not to love?

Sadly I suffered a nail break while wearing Jack the Lad, right down to the quick. It was my left ring finger nail, the same one that broke back in May. I think that when that particular nail gets to a certain length it just goes feet up. Perhaps I need to shape it differently. In any case, prepare yourself to see nubbins in future posts.

In better news, John bought a new-to-him vehicle. It's a white minivan that he got from a woman who lives up in Carolina Meadows. She had a certain price on it and John offered her less than that. They decided to think about it and when we got home from looking at it there was a voicemail message from her saying she wanted John to have the vehicle and would meet his price. Hooray! I'm very proud of him for getting all the paperwork and stuff together that is necessary for a person-to-person sale, hard to do when you can't read!

I am inducing him to name it Moby, for obvious reasons. What do you think?

love,
Aunt Liz
