Butter London Blagger

Another royal blue today! I found it hiding in my swatch chute.

Blagger was released by Butter London as part of its collection for spring/summer 2011 and is now one of the "classic best sellers" on Butter London's website. It is described by Butter London as a "cobalt blue," but medium-dark royal blue is a better fit (though cobalt is also a dark and vibrant blue, I generally think of it as having a certain amount of violet or purple in it).

Application was a delight. Blagger has a creamy, fluid and dense consistency that glides onto the nail like nobody's business with excellent self-leveling qualities. This is Butter London at its formulary best.  Pigmentation is also excellent with opacity in one coat. Two darkens the color just a skosh and gives it better body and brilliance. Clean up is easy and Blagger is non-staining upon removal. It dries naturally in very good time to a glossy finish. What's not to love about this polish?

Photos show two coats of Blagger over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl.

Blagger is slightly lighter than Orly Shockwave. I guess it depends on what you consider "dark" as to which is a better example of royal blue. It seems to me that with Blagger, the venture begins to cross into medium azure blue territory. Blagger is a dream to apply while Orly Shockwave wasn't, but I've reconsidered my issues with applying Orly Shockwave and decided that there is simply a learning curve there. The next time I wear it, I'll probably not feel as challenged as I did the first time and so won't be as critical as I was the other day.

Do I like Blagger better than Shockwave? No. I think Shockwave better fits the "dark but bright" concept that provides the parameters of a true royal blue, but Blagger is a gorgeous, intense, radiant, happy blue, much prettier on the nail than it is in the bottle.

love,
Liz
