Femme Fatale Ink of the Sea

Ink of the Sea is another beautiful complex holo from Australian indie polish maker Femme Fatale Cosmetics. I've been rationing out these amazing Aussie polishes, purchased from online boutique polish seller Color4Nails in an indulgent spree of polish acquisition, and Ink of the Sea is the fifth and next to last polish that I have for you from that splurge. It has a deep but elusive sheer indigo violet base mixed with fine holographic pigments, and bears a superabundance of duochromatic shimmer with a blue/green color shift. The shimmer provides the polish with its predominant coloring, a gorgeous denim blue with a sea green flash over the axis of light, and slips away to let the indigo violet base creep in from the edges. The complex, elusive nature of its appearance gives this polish a mysterious magical feel on the nail. Trying to capture it in words and photos doesn't do it justice, but that's all I got so bear with me!

Application was dreamy. The consistency of Ink of the Sea, as with the other Femme Fatale offerings I've tried, was fluid, light and silky with an outstanding viscosity for painting, excellent self-leveling properties and a lovely smooth slip over the nail. Femme Fatale's brush is long, slender, round and supple -- the formulas of these polishes seem made for it and apply so gracefully and effortlessly that application is a true delight. The only other brand I've had this degree of feeling about is a england, and the formulaic quality of these holos is on par with Adina's. Ink of the Sea is nicely pigmented with opaque coverage in two coats, although I did three for best representation in the photos. Cleanup, which I had a bit more of today thanks to shaky hands, is a snap. Ink of the Sea dries naturally in good time to a smooth, rather flat finish that benefits from a nice glossy topcoat.

Photos show three coats of Ink of the Sea over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite, sans bubbles this time hooray!

As you can see, the coloring is quite changeable depending on the angle of light. We have overcast skies here again today so I was unable to get any direct sun photos showing the true extent of the holographic display, but you can catch a little of it in the photos even so. It has a sparkling, color-nuancing effect in the mix, with blue being the predominant color of the display. Ink of the Sea is structured similarly to Maddening Whispers, but is lighter and bluer with a more stealthy shift to green. It's perfectly gorgeous! I adore denim blues holos, all the better when it is corralled by an indigo base as this one is.

Honestly I don't think I could ever get enough of the subtle complexities of these special holo polishes from Femme Fatale. They amaze and delight the eye, and I never tire of their chameleon-esque color cycling. Composed with a seemingly magical proportioning of pigments and shimmers, they represent to me some of the best indie polish offerings in the holo genre that I've seen. And they go on like buttah, dahling.

Thinking about how I have only one more to show you is making me a little verklempt... talk amongst yourselves... here, I'll give you a topic: peanuts, neither pea nor nut. Discuss.

love,
Liz
