Indigo Bananas Immortal Game

Immortal Game is the third polish by indie polish maker Indigo Bananas that I'll have reviewed from the Fiery the Angels Fell collection released last August. I am loving the duochromatic glass fleck shimmers of this Blade Runner-inspired collection, they are just fantastic polishes and Immortal Game is no different. This is a beautiful clean medium-toned turquoise creme/jelly hybrid bearing superabundant duochromatic glass flecks with a lavender-pink/gold color shift as well as scattered purple flecks and a sprinkling of tiny holographic particles. The glass flecks are large in size and so are very prominent in the mix, contrasting beautifully with the fresh turquoise base color and giving the whole a dimensional dappled look in indirect light. The purple flecks add additional visual interest and the holo particles random rainbow sparks of color, especially in direct sunlight, when the whole polish scintillates with sparkling shimmers.

Application was awesome! I've read several online interviews now with Andrea, the owner and creative force behind Indigo Bananas, and she mentions time and time again how careful she is to produce lacquers that are not only beautiful but also easy to wear and easy to use. I can definitely see this coming through in the formula quality of the polishes I've tried, including Immortal Game. This polish has a fluid, easy, smooth consistency for having so many components, and applies almost effortlessly with a fluent, even, user-friendly flow over the nail, excellent self-leveling properties and no tumbling of the glass flecks. Despite their relatively large size they go on easy as pie and lay flat against the nail, no stick ups and no protrusions over the free edge. I love the wand that Andrea has chosen for her polishes. It's a bit longer than wands from most other brands and is very satisfying to use, providing excellent control over the polish.

Pigmentation of Immortal Game is somewhat sheer on the first coat, building to opacity but wearable on the second and achieves completely opaque even coverage with three coats. This polish is very forgiving, and it doesn't take long to dry either.  Immortal Game dries naturally in good time, set and stable to the touch in about five minutes, to a satiny finish with an infinitesimal amount of surface texture from the glass flecks. Topcoat adds gloss and pops the glowing colors from the glass flecks.

Photos show three coats of Immortal Game over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The shimmers of this collection are all about the dynamic interplay between light and color, Immortal Game especially so. The whole polish changes hue from turquoise to a blue-leaning jade when the lavender-pink of the glass flecks shifts to gold! Like it's namesake, an historically important game of chess that is replicated in Blade Runner, one move shifts the emphasis completely. There's a lot more to it than that regarding both the polish and the movie, but I like to draw small parallels when and how I see 'em, even if they aren't intentional or even entirely correct. Ha!

In any case, this polish is both serene and dynamic, dreamy and electric. It's fresh, gorgeous, glass flecky goodness in a bottle, and I'm pretty stoked to have it in my small, but growing, Indigo Bananas stash.

love,
Liz
