Picture Polish Electric Dream

Few polish makers of any kind are as interactive with the online nail polish community as Australian boutique polish maker Picture Polish. Every year in July they sponsor an online competition called Picture Polish Blogfest, where they send batches of various Picture Polish lacquers to a large number of bloggers all over the world for use simultaneously in an online nail art show that is juried by readers everywhere, who vote on their favorites. The finalists from that vote each contribute an inspirational piece using images and textual descriptions of what their ideal polish would be. After another vote, the winners are selected and each is invited to participate with the formulators at Picture Polish to create a Collaboration polish.

Electric Dream is one of 25 such Collaboration shades from 2013. The inspiration was contributed by Michaela of the wonderful New Zealand polish blog Nail Polish Anon. For her inspiration she drew on her experiences snorkeling among the brightly colored soft corals of Fiji.

You can read about her inspiration and the collaborative experience in her post featuring Electric Dream, here.

Electric Dream is officially described by Picture Polish as a "coral scattered holo with gold sparks." It has a medium bright pink base swimming with beautiful golden particulate shimmers and Picture Polish's signature shardy holographic flakes. The combination of the base and the gold shimmer warms up the pink, and the shimmers contribute a distinct sparkly glow from within the polish. The silvery holo flakes speckle the polish with pale pink and lavender when the light hits them. Both components introduce light into the interior of the polish, giving it added depth as well as visual texture. Electric Dream is something of a chameleon, varying between pink and coral depending upon the complexion of the wearer and the light in which it's viewed. It pulls to a strawberry pink on me but if you look at Michaela's photos in her post you can see that it very much leans to coral on her.

Application was an utter delight. The consistency of Electric Dream is fluid, creamy and dense with a perfect balance of fluidity and viscosity for painting. It has a buttery, self-leveling glide over the nail and is easily manipulated with Picture Polish's flattened, flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good with completely even opaque coverage reached in two coats. I searched for a reason to do another coat as I didn't want to stop applying this delicious formula, but there was none. Cleanup is a snap. Electric Dream dries naturally very quickly to a rather flat finish that wants a good topcoat to look its best.

Photos show two coats of Electric Dream over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Glisten and Glow HK Girl.

As the day went on and the light changed, so did Electric Dream. The golden shimmers became more pronounced and sparkled at the surface of the polish like the holo flakes. Later, under incandescent light, Electric Dream took on a silky, creme-rinse appearance and a rich coral color that was laced with golden-orange shimmers.

What an awesome polish this is! It's easy now to get lost in the wide selection of blogger collaborations offered by Picture Polish and it's stockists, but if you're looking to add some Collaboration shades to your collection, I wholeheartedly recommend Electric Dream.

love,
Liz

  1. This is a really pretty polish. However, if it had looked coral on you, that's another story. Why am I the only girl in creation who doesn't like coral?? Anyway...the shimmer in this is just lovely. And I desperately want to know what a creme-rinse appearance is.

    1. Do you dislike ALL corals, Melissa? Because I can definitely see you totally rocking a red coral. Red corals are awesome! Pink corals are another thing -- I like them intense and burning with deep hot pink, orange and a touch of red, like the flame color you see in a sunset. No soft, peachy, nebulous corals. Peach is dud to the duddest on me.

You know how creme-rinse has that silky look? Or at least it used to, back in the Breck-basted days of my childhood. That's what I mean. It's a glow. A particular kind of gleaming silky glow with a slightly translucent look. Helpful?

    2. I dislike all corals, especially indecisive pinky corals. They should make up their minds just what they're trying to be! :P It's funny that I love all other ambiguous colors.

Ahh, the Age of Breck. I remember those days. I always wished they were the days of the original Clairol Herbal Essence because it smelled so good and had the best bottle ever.

    3. Wow, I loved the Herbal Essence bottle. It was like a bay window on the Garden of Eden.

      Don't forget the Lemon Up!
