Priti NYC Black Prince Orchid

Priti NYC describes Black Prince Orchid as a "dark reddish fuchsia," but to my eye, this is a very deep plummy purple. It can take on the dark red look of venous blood in certain circumstances so there is indeed a reddish aspect to it. It's kind of like a cross between darkest scarlet and deep royal fuchsia, a bit more purple than the characteristic color of its namesake, the Cymbidium Tethys Black Prince orchid. The blending of hues in this shade is sleek and seamless, as organically-inspired colors must be to render natural inspirations with authenticity, and retains its rich coloring even in low light.

This is now the third Priti NYC polish I've worked with and with each one I learn a little more about the typical attributes of a Priti NYC formula. It's an interesting and ongoing process. Black Prince Orchid has a formula that is very like yesterday's Hadspen Blue; the consistency is quite fluid, light and ultra creamy, with an luxuriously smooth, self-leveling glide over the nail. It's a creme/jelly hybrid sort of formula, deeply pigmented but with a certain degree of translucence to it that you will notice immediately when you view it in direct sun. For that reason, thin, even coats are the best way to go with this polish. Two coats provide wearable coverage but three are best for most even opacity. Cleanup may provoke considerable pigment travel and some slight residual staining to skin, so ply the acetone with care. Black Prince Orchid dries naturally in average time to a deeper shade than the bottle color suggests and a beautiful glossy finish.

Photos show three coats of Black Prince Orchid over treatment and basecoat with a slightly bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite.

I appreciate the sleek elegance of this deep plum. It has a certain mysterious ambiguity to it that defies characterization. On the nail it is somewhat moody, which reflects my own outlook of late.

The world is too much with me.

love,

  1. Well, okay, this is beautiful! Thank you for sharing this polish, and for the wonderful photos (and the excellent polishing and clean-up!). While I am still using summer, with some spring, colors, I have been seeing more Fall-like polishes popping up lately. It is difficult for me to get into that mode as our temps have been, and are forecast to stay, in the 100s. I hate these summers when the 90s are a relief from the heat! Only have to wait for December for some cooler weather to settle in! I have been curious - if it's so unusually hot in a lot of northern places, I wonder how much more frigid it is in the south areas, since the Earth's opposite weather systems seem to reflect each other. Anyway... back to polish! I might have to give some Fall colors some loving soon!

    1. I've been craving fall colors for a little while now -- once I got them on my nails it just felt so good! Are you in the southwest? That's the only place in the US I can think of with temps that are consistently that high. Here in NC with the humidity we occasionally have heat advisories that are above 100, but it isn't the norm. I still complain though! Guess I need to count my blessings, eh?

I say go with your gut for nail color! Whatever you're wanting to wear, that's what will feel best once you've got it on your nails!
