Grace-full Nail Polish Stop the Show and Red Tint

Stop the Show and it's companion Red Tint were released at the end of July this year by Australian indie polish maker Grace-full Nail Polish as part of the What a Girl Wants collection, a collaborative effort by Theresa, owner and creative force behind Grace-full Nail Polish, and the girls of Ella Ann Cosmetics, its US stockist. This polish duo was conceived by Kristen of Ella Ann Cosmetics. It consists of Stop the Show, a pink foil, and Red Tint, a red jelly that is layered over Stop the Show to create a red metallic look.

Stop the Show is a medium-toned bright rose pink with a slight magenta lean, silvered by superabundant silver microflakes. Basically, it's your perfect rose pink foil polish, with a reflective semi-metallic look and all kinds of awesome sparkle in the sun. The pink is fresh and floral, a vivacious feminine hue that makes a dazzling foil. I love foils -- the visual texture of the characteristic fleckiness in the finish is irresistible to me.

Application was great! The consistency of Stop the Show is fluid, light and smooth with an easy, self-leveling flow over the nail. Pigmentation is very good with completely opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is all about the silver microflakes, which loose themselves with abandon all over the nail surrounds at the touch of acetone while simultaneously adhering limpet-like to the surface of the nail. Figure out how to clean that up and you've got it made! Stop the Show dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Red Tint, the other half of the duo, is an intense scarlet red jelly that, while semi-translucent, packs a mighty punch. It accompanies the full-sized Stop the Show packaged in an adorable square mini bottle. Red Tint can actually be layered to a wearable opacity on its own -- if you'd like to see what that looks like, I recommend checking out The Polished Hippy's excellent review and photos of some of the polishes from the What a Girl Wants Collection, including Stop the Show and Red Tint, here.

I applied Red Tint over the above Stop the Show manicure. Its consistency is fluid but not runny, and very, very smooth, making it easy to distribute evenly over the nail despite the tiny mini-brush, though it may take more than one brush dip per nail to do so. The vivid red makes for a slightly surreal application experience -- I guess I just wasn't prepared for such intensity from a translucent jelly! I could still detect a bit of rosiness to my nail color after the first coat of Red Tint and wanted as red a red as I could get so I added one more coat.

The result is a brilliant intense Christmas red with a gleaming semi-metallic appearance in indirect light and shade and a fantastic uber-sparkly shimmer in direct light. The fact that the sparkle comes from beneath the red gives the look incredible depth and dimensionality. It is fierce!

Woohoo! This combo is ever-do-slightly warmer and thus brighter in person, if you can imagine. It's amazing! You can bet I'll be wearing this again come Christmas!

  1. This is so pretty. Stop the Show reminds me of Zoya Bobbi...am I thinking of the right one? And it actually looks like when you applied Red Tint over it, the silver turned gold. What a Christmas miracle!! :)

    1. I've always had a yen for Bobbi even though I haven't yet gotten around to purchasing it. Looking at some photos, they are indeed a verrrry similar rosy pink. Stop the Show has more silver showing than Bobbi does so it doesn't look quite as refined but the concept is the same.

And you're right again about the silver turning gold under that Red Tint! In person, you really don't notice it so much but man, does it show up in the photos. Especially in the sun!

      Good eye, madam!

  2. Well, I love pink polish and I love red polish...
I try like crazy to read your review (and strive to visualize the polish) before the photos scroll up into view (like a delayed treat!). On average, I'm winning on the read-first, view-later front, but envisioning the polish - apparently, I lack the imagination necessary, and should remember to squash any leanings I might ever have about creating gorgeous, never-seen-before polish!
(and, anyway, I love to read and your marvelous reviews are superlative)

I have frequently read about this brand of polish and have thought of adding a few bottles to my collection. From the photos I've seen, it has some of the prettiest polishes out there. I just never have - so many polishes, not enough time (or money!). This pink foil, though - it may be it, the one that pushes me. But that's not enough, wait, there's the red. Good grief, what's a gal to do. Hahah, buy all the polish!
(Your sentence on the cleanup, especially, had me Laughing Out Loud. I was glad I didn't have a mouthful of coffee at the time.) :)

    1. Thank you, Lara, for your lovely compliment! It makes me very happy to know how much you enjoy reading my reviews.

Although I only own a few Grace-fulls, I wholeheartedly recommend this brand and its stockist, Ella Ann Cosmetics, to you. Theresa's formulas are always wonderful, and her colors are rich and feminine. Ella Ann Cosmetics has a clean, easy-to-navigate website design and ships very quickly. Stop the Show and Red Tint come together for one price, they're a two-fer! You can't go wrong with this duo.

Sometimes I spend at least as much time on cleanup as I do painting. I have shaky hands and am a messy painter. If you could see some of the painting diasters I've been party to, you would laugh even harder!

I do think you should treat yourself to this duo, Lara. You deserve it!
