ILNP Lucky One
Lucky One was released in November by Nevada-based boutique polish maker I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) as part of the Holiday 2015 collection and as a new addition to ILNP's Ultra Metallics line of polishes specifically formulated with ultra thin metallic flakes. This one has a medium-dark transparent pine green jelly base bearing superabundant silver metallic flakes plus a generous dose of holographic pigment. The pine green freshens to a bright shamrock over the gleaming silvery flakies, which piece together over the nail like a glistening reflective mosaic. In the sun the holo pigment lights up in random sparks of brilliant prismatic colors, and there is even a vestigial linear prismatic flare at oblique angles.
Application was great! The consistency of Lucky One is fluid and smooth, with an easy, self-leveling flow over the nail. The flakies go on without difficulty and lay flat to the nail. Pigmentation of the base is sheer by design -- coverage is wholly provided by the profuse flakes and full opacity is obtainable in two coats. Cleanup is largely a matter of chasing down the tiny bits of silver that disperse around the nail environs during the process. They do enjoy sticking tenaciously to the nail, but are easily removed from skin and cuticle with a good handwashing after the polish has dried. Lucky One dries naturally in very good time to a shiny finish with a rather pleasant, gently pebbled texture that is mostly smoothed by topcoat.
Photos show two coats of Lucky One over treatment and base coat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

My camera seems to render a very literal translation of this green, I think, meaning the color you see in the photos looks exactly like the base color does in the bottle when you see it in person. To the eye in person, it is brighter and richer on the nail than the photos show, more like the color in the sun shots -- less earthy, more celebratory, less reserved, more playful. In fact, in person it's quite energetic and ebullient, with a cheerful gregarious quality and a feeling of unrestrained eagerness. Lakkomlakkom did an excellent job of capturing its buoyant personality in her photos and review of the collection, here.
And if you're wondering, as I did, how Lucky One stacks up to Emerald from the new Birthstone collection released by indie polish maker KBShimmer earlier this month, you can see a comparison photo of the two polishes side-by-side on the nail in an excellent post about the similarities and differences between ILNP's and KBShimmers' silver flakie polishes on NailedthePolish, here.
Like the other Ultra Metallic polishes I've experienced, the caliber of light play in Lucky One is almost mind-blowing. Super flashy and full of rippling scintillations and flickering sparkle, it's nothing if not a party! Think St. Patrick's Day -- if I didn't know it was part of the Holiday collection, I'd say this lacquer looks like it was made for March 17th, which comes on a Thursday this year.
Fun polish!
ttyl,
Liz
