Great Lakes Lacquer Kissing My Hun on a Gun

Kissing My Hun on a Gun was released by Michigan-based indie polish maker Great Lakes Lacquer as a limited edition stand-alone polish in August 2015. This is a medium-dark blue-green linear holo bearing metallic microflake shimmers in sky blue. The beautiful, fresh base color comes from the teal/pine/skobeloff family of blue-greens and twinkles with bright sky blue sparks. The holographic effects engender a blaze of vibrant cerulean blue in most lights, and in the sun there's an intense, richly-colored prismatic flare with a central flame of brilliant cerulean trimmed by a slender sparkling yellow-green corona before shading to deep petrol around the edges of the nail. Just gorgeous!

Application was a little tetchy. The consistency of Kissing My Hun on a Gun was fluid and dense, with a thicker consistency that had me reaching for the polish thinner. It's the sort of polish that thickens with exposure to air, and I added thinner several times over the course of the manicure to keep a consistency that I was comfortable with. I also came across tiny grains of undissolved pigment in my bottle, an anomaly I'm sure as it wasn't mentioned in any of the other reviews I've read. I was able to work some of them them down to the free edge and off of the nail with the brush, but as this polish sets up rather quickly, overworking the polish like this was problematic and I stopped doing it. Pigmentation is very good, with evenly opaque coverage in two coats. I added a third to smooth out some flaws in the second, but I don't recommend this as it may increase staining during removal. Clean up was relatively straightforward, with less pigment travel than I was expecting and a little bit of residual staining. Kissing My Hun on a Gun dries naturally in fairly good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not interfere with the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show three coats of Kissing My Hun on a Gun over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Once you've got it on the nail, it is impossible not to love this polish. It's just packed with sparkly holographic goodness! Out of bright light, though, it is a gentle and serene shade. The blue sparks are easier to see then -- they're a beautiful touch and fire off as light travels over them them.

Sweet!

love,
Liz

ps As I mentioned above, Kissing My Hun on a Gun has the potential to stain during removal -- take precautions!
