Missi describes this polish as "a scattered silver holographic polish with added shimmers, flakies and microglitters in pastel blues and pinks." Speckled with abundant tiny flecks of pink and blue, the silver holo base is the backdrop for soft clouds of sparkle in prismatic and iridescent hues, so lovely! In the bottle, Baby Dust reads as sort of a pale silvery lilac, but on the nail it leans slightly more to silver with just a kiss of palest lilac, created by the blend of pink and blue components. It has an exquisitely ethereal, dreamy sensibility that is rare for a holo glitterbomb.
Application was pretty good! The consistency of Baby Dust is fluid, light and somewhat fluffy from all the components, with a medium-to-thick viscosity and a self-leveling sweep over the nail with a bit of pull to it. The viscosity was on the thicker side for my skills so I added polish thinner at the outset. This polish likes to go on in medium to thicker coats, but I tried to keep them as thin as possible as all of those glitters and shimmers and flakes make for a certain amount of bulk over multiple coats. Pigmentation is fairly sheer and coverage is provided in large part by the components. Two coats net wearable coverage with any visible nail line mostly camouflaged by lightplay and reflectivity. I used three relatively light coats for the photos. Cleanup is straightforward -- I did mine as I went along. Baby Dust dries naturally to a shiny finish with a gentle sandy texture that is somewhat topcoat hungry. Double up on topcoat or use a dedicated glitter-smoother if you want a glassy finish. I rather like the softer reflectivity after it's eaten its way through a single layer of topcoat -- it seems in keeping with the nature of the polish.
Photos show three coats of Baby Dust over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The concept of "baby dust" has its own special significance in the culture of women's fertility. If you google images for baby dust, you'll find a plethora of conception-related memes and graphic art, as well as photos of crafted items and wearables for gifting those looking to conceive. Etsy is a particularly rich source for these things.

I've never given birth and my childbearing days are long behind me, but this sweet polish has given me a lot to think about.
love,
Liz
Please don't make me buy this! Hahah, too late! I don't know why I love this polish so much. It's not like I don't have a zillion - well, okay, maybe only a few billion - silver glitter polishes. Most with varying complementary elements. (I am CONSTANTLY having to restrain myself from buying all those 'Unicorn...' polishes from Lacquer Lust. When I see one, it's like a kneejerk reaction to pull up the site to order it.) I don't think any of mine have this look, though. heheheh
ReplyDelete*sigh* And I am really trying to not spend as much on polish - impatiently waiting for that Cirque Colors Speckled collection that will include Hatch to come out SOON! Hmmm, not doing too well on the saving bit - I went gaga over that CbL Hillbilly Harlot and ordered it, along with another. And a couple of others... :D
I have yet to try Lacquer Lust, but their "Hop to It" unicorn has pastel matte microglitters in it. The pink and blue microglitters in Baby Dust aren't matte, they're actually really sparkly -- they definitely add something extra to the ususal prismatic sparkle of holographic microglitters.
DeleteSo, Hatch will be part of an entire Speckled collection? How did I not know this? Generally I don't particularly mind being out of the loop, but this is an exception. When is this Speckled collection going to be released? I feel the need to know more!
Congrats on acquiring Hillbilly Harlot, such an awesome pink polish. I suspect you will adore it!
Cirque put their new collection up for sale yesterday. I jumped on Hatch and a few others. I might get more!
DeleteHillbilly Harlot came in the mail yesterday. I'm just getting my nails all tidied up from the last mani so I can introduce it to my nails! I can already hear them giggling when I let them know the name of it. LOL
I keep filling my Cirque cart and then closing the window -- I want to get a couple or three others in addition to Hatch but I can't decide between the Speckles and some of the new Metropolis colors. Ack.
DeleteEnjoy that Hillbilly Harlot! I know you will!
