Zoya Alicia

It's been a while since I reviewed a Zoya polish -- five months since I wrote about Zoya Naked Manicure and eight since I reviewed Jace. But I recently purchased six new lacquers during Zoya's fall BOGO polish exchange, so that hiatus is officially over. Ta!

Alicia was released in mid-August this year by Zoya as part of the Urban Grunge collection for fall 2016. It's one of three holographic polishes from that collection (and the only one I bought), and from reviews I thought it the most unusual and captivating of the three. Officially described as "a linear holo with a touch of gold," I'd call it a scattered light silver holo bearing superabundant delicate lemony-gold particulate shimmers. It has a transparent suspension base that is packed with tiny holographic microflakes, as opposed to the finely-milled pigment that produces the linear effect. Those microflakes deliver boatloads of scattered prismatic sparkle, and the silky particulate shimmers give it a pale lemony-gold glow. Angie Canning of VanityRouge called it "an angelic holo," and I agree. It reminds me of spun glass.

Application was stellar. The consistency of Alicia is fluid and light with a medium viscosity and a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail that is easy to manipulate with Zoya's round flexible brush, just a great Zoya formula. Pigmentation is evenly sheer and buildable. I think that the coverage at two coats, slightly sheer with a skosh of visible nail line, is actually the prettiest look, but I went for complete opacity with three coats for the photos. Cleanup is easy. Alica dries naturally in good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not seem to affect the holographic properties of the polish at all.

Photos show three coats of Alicia over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

There's a hint of visible nail line in the photos that is not at all noticeable in person. Actually the way it appears in the photos is more like how it looks at two coats in person, isn't it pretty? That tiny bit of VNL gives it such a delicate, airy quality. The shimmery gold glow is more or less overt depending upon viewing circumstances, but it never becomes obtrusive.

Nicely done, Zoya!

  1. How pretty this polish is. I have been interested lately in pale gold, softly glittery-type polishes. I love that delicate look it has about it!

    1. The gold in this is secondary to the silver and shows itself differently depending on the kind of light, but it's so beautiful and wearable for someone like me, who doesn't wear true gold well. I think it's stunning. Very light but not at all frosty. Plus beaucoup scattered prismatic sparkle! You would like this, Lara!
