A-England Symphony in Green and Gold

Symphony in Green and Gold was released last month by British boutique polish maker A-England as part of the Sargent's Vision collection, a series of four polishes inspired by the 1885-6 oil painting Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by Anglo-American artist John Singer Sargent (1856-1925). The polishes are named in the style with which the artist James Whistler, a contemporary of Sargent's, entitled his paintings, signifying parallels between painting and music.

Officially described as a "honeydew green with hints of gold," Symphony in Green and Gold is a silky, luminous pale green holo in creator Adina's inimitable holographic style, with a glowing prismatic flush that dimensionalizes the polish beautifully on the nail and travels with the angle of light. The color is a gentle celery-like hue kissed with pale gold and heavily silvered by holographic pigment. It is similar to the shade medium spring bud or shadow lime from the ICS-NBSS Dictionary of Color Names, with a silky, silvery, semi-metallic aspect to the finish. The holographic pigment gives it a shimmering, finely-grained visual texture that sparkles in the sun, where the prismatic flush brightens to a lush gradational flare of yellow-gold, peachy pink, pale spring green, misty azure and lavender.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of Symphony in Green and Gold is fluid, smooth and creamy with a medium viscosity and a luxurious, silky, self-leveling slip over the nail. Delicate brushstrokes that appear during application melt away as the polish dries. Pigmentation is very good, delivering evenly opaque coverage in two medium coats, although I added a third for the photos to ensure the non-appearance of my nail ridges (not entirely successfully). Cleanup is easy. Symphony in Green and Gold dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not interfere with the holographic effects in any way.

Photos show three coats of Symphony in Green and Gold over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. The ambient light pics are slightly washed out; in person, there is a little more green to the look.

Exquisite! For a soft color, almost a pastel really, this polish is exceptionally lustrous, a quality greatly contributed to by the lovely prismatic bloom that Adina has perfected in her holographic creations. A pale, glowing honeydew in the center of the nail shades gracefully to a more robust medium spring bud hue at the edges, giving the look a sleek, dimensional sensibility that is unusually elegant for a green polish. Green lovers as well as those who may feel hesitant to wear green on their nails will find that it makes for a graceful and flattering manicure.

love,
Liz
