Mentality Offbeat

Offbeat by Mentality is part of their Dark Variant Holo collection, a line of blackened colors with fine subtle holographic qualities. Offbeat is a medium dark blackened steely teal blue polish containing finely ground holo pigments that products a loose subtle prismatic display in direct light. In indirect lighting, they contribute a rich dimensional look to the dark teal coloring.

Application was lovely. This polish has a thinner consistency than the other Mentality lacquers I've tried. It's creamy and fluid and applies very smoothly. Pigmentation is excellent with completely opacity in one medium coat. That's right, another one coater! Determined to offset my furrowed nail beds, I applied two coats of this polish. Offbeat dries in very good time to a satiny semi-gloss finish, and takes well to topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Offbeat over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl.

I think this is stunning. The color is so mysterious and elegant and flattering and I love the distinctive speckled opulence and glow that the addition of holo pigments brings to the beautiful teal blue color. I've always loved the remarkably rich look of scattered holo polishes when they're out of direct lighting, and Offbeat definitely has that same special quality.

love,
Liz

  1. Hi Liz, Finally I found my way over to yours!!! What a beauty Offbeat is and how appropriately characterized - "distinctive speckled opulence" just nails it down. I was very interested to read that you would go with two different Base Coats - isn't the BL Nail Foundation just wonderful? I love its soft nude tinge and definitely should revive my bottle! Back to Offbeat: I so agree with your observation about the richness and depth of Mentality's dark holos - have a lovely rest of Monday :-)

    1. Christine! So glad you found this! I use Seche Rebuild under the BL Nail Foundation as a strengthener, before I started using it my nails, especially the super ridged ones, were very thin and flimsy and I've found the Rebuild has worked well over time to encourage stronger nails. So now I'm hooked on it. The BL Nail Foundation is absolutely my favorite base coat, it's ridge-filling properties actually work. If I use two coats of it, I have a smooth ridge-free canvas to paint on but I usually one use one. Thanks for visiting!
