Zoya Gilda

Today's bright pink polish is brought to you by Zoya. It's Gilda, released by Zoya as part of its epic Sparkle collection for summer 2010. Zoya calls this rosy beauty an expensive-looking sparkling metallic fashion pink. You know, I think Zoya's website descriptions are a great idea, but sometimes I feel like they fall a little flat. Gilda has a deep but bright well-saturated fuchsia jelly base filled with intense bright pink foily glitter platelets that are slightly lighter and cooler in color. The overall appearance is of a very cool-toned intensely bright pink with a scintillating speckled foily finish, a gift-wrap-ribbon color that is also quite floral.

Application was pretty good. The consistency of Gilda, like some of its sister polishes from the Sparkle collection, is fluid, light and thin but not runny. It has some sheerness to it, but goes on so smoothly and evenly that it can be worn at one coat and still look great, albeit with a trace of visible nail line. Additional coats bring increased coverage and richer color. I did three. Clean up is easy with some stubborn adherence to skin on the part of the glitter platelets but they don't scatter and the jelly base isn't a stainer. Gilda dries naturally in what I thought was longer than average time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show three coats of Gilda over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. Apologies for the dirt on my right middle finger. I took the dog out for her morning constitutional before taking pictures of the manicure and somehow the dirt managed to leap from the ground to my finger. Not the first time this has happened, and probably won't be the last.

Well there's another awesome summer pedi shade for you and a very photogenic one too I might add. I just adore Zoya's foils, they add a delicious visual texture and body to the color that results in a more sophisticated look. Gilda is a perfect example. The color is pretty and girly, but the foily finish makes it so much more lively and passionate. Even with it's near shocking pinkness, it's an easy polish to love. Of course it doesn't hurt that this cool pink plays very nicely with my cool-toned complexion, but I can see it looking just as beautiful and maybe even more exotic against warmer complexions.

Great polish!

love,
Liz
