ILNP Iconic

Iconic is one of four polishes from I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) that I picked up during the preorder for the Fall 2014 collection not too long ago. It's a pale golden taupe linear holo swimming with small irregularly-shaped golden flakies, which give the polish a sleek shimmering foily metallic appearance on the nail. The holographic effects are exceptionally strong, beautifully nuancing the nude-ish base with prismatic colors in indirect light, especially tones of pale violet and blue. The look is simultaneously celebratory and ethereal, a luminous combination that would lend itself particularly well to special occasions.

Application was fabulous. The consistency of Iconic is fluid, smooth and dense, with a silky, even flow over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is very good, with wearably opaque, even coverage in two medium coats. But I found that three coats delivered richer color,  a more intense prismatic display and the best camouflage for nail bed imperfections that tend to be conspicuous with metallic type polishes. Cleanup was easy and straightforward, even the foily golden flakies were easily removed from cuticles and skin. Iconic dries naturally in good time to a very shiny finish. Topcoat did not diminish the holographic effects in any way.

Photos show three coats of Iconic over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is a beautifully formulated polish. My complexion isn't well-suited to wearing gold, but I am fascinated by the way Iconic looks on my nails nonetheless. From certain angles, it has a look that is like a golden foil with a cloud of translucent pinkish grey hovering over the gold. Really different and special. If you do wear gold, you will love this. And I imagine that it would be utterly spectacular in direct sun, but since it's raining today I didn't have the opportunity to take any sun shots. However I can tell you that the holo is blazing under halogens, really showy!

Iconic has a sister polish that's a rosy blush color holo with coppery gold flakies called Champagne Blush. Given how unusual Iconic is, I wish I'd ordered that one also.

love,
Liz

  1. This is super gorgeous! I love that it's a neutral but the holo makes it stand out. Did you happen to pick up Black Orchid from the preorder? I almost got that one but I resisted the temptation. I can't wait to see what other ones you picked up.

    1. I thought you might like this one, Melissa, for it's color and incredible holo display. Do you wear gold? For some reason I feel like you do. This polish was such a surprise to me, I never wear gold but the combination of holo pigments and golden flakes is so well done I can't help but admire it.

Yes, I did get Black Orchid! It's the only one I haven't posted yet, but it's in my swatching chute waiting for a turn. The ones I've already posted besides Iconic are Abundance (a red/orange/gold/green multichrome) and Fall Semester (medium teal holo), both of which were great polishes. Of the three so far, I think Iconic is the stand out for me. So strange for me to be saying that about a gold polish, but it's true! We'll see if that changes when I get to Black Orchid, eh? It looks amazing.
