Literary Lacquers Fallen Tributes

Fallen Tributes was recently released by indie polish maker Literary Lacquers as part of the 2014 Community Collection last month. This polish was a collaboration between Amy, owner and creative force behind Literary Lacquers, and Jennifer of the polish blog 4Boys1Mom, based on Jennifer's inspiration of sky imagery from The Hunger Games. I'm the only person in my family who hasn't read this book, apparently, so I can't tell you about how the concept fits with the lacquer, but I can easily say that it is gorgeous. It's a medium-toned denim blue linear holo bearing irregularly-shaped golden flake shimmers as well as finely-milled copper particulate shimmers. The prismatic display is strong and athletic, visible in some degree in nearly any light, and shades the denim blue with a beautiful bloom of azure in the center with a stormy blue-grey wash around the edges. In the midst of this are the shining silvery gold flakes, which beautifully complement the blues. It is sleek and understated on the nail, with a coppery flash in certain lights.

Application was a delight. The consistency of Fallen Tributes is fluid, creamy and dense with a velvety glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is very good with completely even, opaque coverage in two coats. I used three coats for this manicure due to an inopportune trip outdoors with the dog after the first coat, which left a few DOG hairs lingering on the freshly painted polish that were promptly incorporated into the second coat and had to be removed with tweezers. Thus a third coat was required to cover the hair tracks (which it did admirably). What can I say? When the dog wants to go out, you take her out. Cleanup with this polish was easy and straightforward. Unfortunately, I have some green glitters hanging around after the removal of yesterday's Holly Up Already manicure. Please ignore them. Fallen Tributes dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish. It takes topcoat beautifully, which adds gloss and lights up the flash from the copper shimmers.

Photos show three coats of Fallen Tributes over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Even though I don't know the story behind it, to me Fallen Tributes has a lyrical, almost nostalgic beauty, with all of its components chiming in softly in a harmonious compendium of visual effects. I consider this a comfort polish, something I can wear any time and be sure of feeling great about the look of it on the nail. Blues generally do this for me, but particularly subtle mid-toned blues like this one. Really nice!

love,
Liz
