Girly Bits Get Weaponized

Get Weaponized was released in November 2013 by Canadian indie polish maker Girly Bits as a Blogger Collaboration shade. Created with Nicole of Nail Polish Wars in honor of the second anniversary of her blog, you can see Nicole's post about this polish here. It's described as a "teal linear holo with purple and magenta iridescent sparkles," but I don't see teal. To me, it's more of a light silvery aquatic blue, sort of like the love child of sky blue and celeste, a cyanic shade that brings to mind the sparkling shallow waters around the Florida keys. Suspended within are abundant purple fleck shimmers and tiny iridescent magenta microglitters that flash in hues of electric blue and blue violet as the light hits them. The unusual combination of the aqua blue base speckled Pointillist style with purple and magenta gives this polish interesting visual texture and depth, intensified by its holographic properties, which gently nuance the base color with subtle hues of cerulean and teal blue. The prismatic display is not quite as defined as you typically see in a linear holo, perhaps due to a scattering effect by the components, but can be seen in direct sun as a shimmering flare of bright blue, green and gold sparks.

Application was great! The consistency of Get Weaponized is fluid, creamy and slightly fluffy, with a smooth, easy flow over the nail and very good self-leveling properties. This is a very well-behaved, user-friendly formula -- it goes right where you put it and stays there with no untoward polish antics. Pigmentation is very good with completely even, opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward, even with the microglitters. Get Weaponized dries naturally in very good time to a silky smooth, somewhat flat finish with a very slight discernible texture from the components that is easily smoothed with a single layer of topcoat. Topcoat also accentuates the presence and effects of the flecks and iridescent microglitters, and does not diminish the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Get Weaponized over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Girly Bits Smooth Move basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. The sun was out briefly earlier today but the sky has since clouded over so today again I have no pics in direct sun. That's ok, for me the gorgeous speckling is the star of the show.

Those swarming teensy purple flecks amidst the bright aquatic blue are just too cool for words -- there's a composite effect thing going on that reminds me of modern linoleums and I just love it! Get Weaponized has a lot of character and is particularly easy to live with. Even Fuzzy, who squints and curls her lip at most aqua colored polishes, was charmed by this one.

It's those crazy delicious purple flecks, I'm telling you!

love,
Liz

    1. Thanks, Lara! I was just like you about this polish, so finally I went ahead and got it and don't regret it a bit! It is very cool and unlike any other aqua colored polish in my collection. Those purple flecks really set it apart, and it's just a beautifully constructed lacquer. I forgot to mention in my review that it's also got a decent bit of secret squirrel sparkle from the iridescent glitters, much more noticeable in person that a photo could show.
