Girly Bits Ho-Ho-Hope

Ho-Ho-Hope was released by Canadian indie polish maker Girly Bits as part of the Holiday 2013 collection. Officially described as a "violet/magenta linear holo," this is a medium-toned rich orchid shade with aspects of purple and magenta, sort of like a plummy steel pink. The creamy base is liberally dosed with finely-milled holographic pigment that generates beautiful dimensional shading in hues of amethyst, floral lavender, violet and heliotrope, with a distinctive bloom of intense peachy pink veiled in golden sparkles when the light hits it just right. Direct sun brightens the base color to a brilliant red violet that shades to a deeper amethyst around the edges, with a gentle prismatic flare of the same gold-spangled peachy pink trailing clouds of bright blue sparks. This polish is full-bodied and intensely feminine on the nail, with a lush, tropical vibe that brings to mind hot house flowers like moth orchids and plumeria.

Application was fabulous. The consistency of Ho-Ho-Hope is fluid, light and smooth with a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail. This is a user-friendly polish that is easy to manipulate with Girly Bits' flattened flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good with evenly opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with no pigment travel at all. Ho-Ho-Hope dries naturally in good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that loves the gloss of a good topcoat. Topcoat does not in any way inhibit its holographic properties.

It's a testament to the quality of the polishes in the Holiday 2013 collection and to creator Pam's wisdom and foresight regarding the desires of her customers that Ho-Ho-Hope and two of the other three polishes from that collection are still available for purchase on the Girly Bits website.
