Girly Bits It Was The Fireball

It Was The Fireball was released in August by Canadian indie polish maker Girly Bits as part of the 2015 What Really Happened in Vegas collection, a series of polishes based on humorous and memorable events that creator Pam and other polish makers and bloggers experienced during the week of CosmoProf North America Las Vegas this year. If you're like me and don't get out much, you need to know that Fireball is a cinnamon-flavored whisky-based liqueur produced by the Sazerac Company. This is what Sazerac greets you with on the official Fireball website:
If you haven't tried it yet, just imagine what it feels like to stand face-to-face with a fire-breathing dragon who just ate a whisky barrel full of spicy cinnamon. Live it, love it, shoot it – what happens next is up to you.
I imagine that a polish enthusiast under the influence of Fireball would make for all kinds of hilarity, but we can only guess at what ensued. Pam does not sip and tell!

This polish is a true red linear holo, a brilliant medium-dark scarlet that knocks at the door of vermilion, vibrant and sassy. The finely-milled holographic pigment reads as shimmering gold through the base and gives the color tremendous depth -- you can detect a semi-metallic gleam of coppery red deep within. This is one of the few red linear holos I've experienced where the red pigment doesn't swallow the holographic effects. In indirect light, they produce rich dimensional nuancing in bright tones of poppy, tomato and crimson. Direct sun generates a delineated fully prismatic display with a glowing inner band of indigo and violet trimmed by a ribbon of bright sparks in blue, green, yellow, orange and, of course, red, all floating over a central lick of gleaming coppery red.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of It Was The Fireball is fluid, creamy and dense, with a velvety glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Truly a pleasure to work with! Pigmentation is excellent with wearable coverage in one coat, but you'll definitely want to add a second for fullest opacity, richest color and to make the most of the polish's considerable holographic properties. Cleanup was easy and straightforward, no pigment travel or staining with this red polish! It Was The Fireball dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, semi-satin finish. Topcoat adds a becoming gloss and does not inhibit the holographic effects in any way.

Photos show two coats of It Was The Fireball over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

What a great year-round red holo! In some lights, it really does look like one of those atomic fireball candies, doesn't it? Hot!

I just might have to try some of this Fireball. For scientific purposes, you understand....

love,
Liz

    1. I agree, Lara! That holo pigment reading as gold through the red is very intense!
