Elevation Polish Douglas's Love

Like Valle de la Luna, Douglas's Love was released in December 2016 by Minnesota-based indie polish maker Elevation Polish as part of the Chillin' in Chile collection. This polish is named for Douglas Tompkins (1943-2015), an American conservationist, outdoorsman, philanthropist, filmmaker, agriculturalist, and businessman. He co-founded The North Face and Esprit before leaving the business world and moving to Chile in 1989. There he bought and conserved over two million acres of wilderness in Chile and Argentina, founding The Conservation Land Trust in 1992 and creating many national parks, sanctuaries, reserves and other conservation projects. Amazing!

Douglas's Love is officially described as a deep magenta with red-to-gold colorshifting microshimmers. The color is an excellent representation of fandango, a plummy convergence of red-violet, fuchsia and magenta. Abundant golden microshimmers float within, creating a softly glowing mist that is visible on close scrutiny and adds a bit of effervescence and dimensionality to the color from afar.

Application was great! The consistency of Douglas's Love is fluid, light and smooth with a thin-to-medium consistency and a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail. Pigmentation is good. I used two medium coats for this manicure but as you will see in the pics there are still uneven areas (toward the free edge on my ring finger nail, for example), so I recommend three coats to ensure most even coverage. Cleanup is straightforward with a tiny bit of pigment travel but no residual staining to speak of. Douglas's Love dries naturally in very good time to a slightly darker shade than the bottle color would lead to you expect, and a flat, satiny finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best and make the most of the presence and effects of the shimmers.

Photos show two generous coats of Douglas's Love over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I never tire of red-violet hues and this is a lovely one. The slightly dusky quality of the color is nicely counterbalanced by the misty microshimmers, which I expect would be even more noticeable in direct sun.

love,
