Pretty Serious Peace on Earth

Peace on Earth was released last month by Australian indie polish maker Pretty Serious Cosmetics as part of the Ghosts of Christmas Past collection. It's a cool pastel green with ultrafine coppery pink particulate shimmers, a doppelganger to Yves Saint Laurent's coveted limited edition lacquer Peace Green of last spring. Kaz excels at recreating hard-to-find classic lacquers, and this is a beautiful example of her expertise. The color is a pale, milky, cyanic pastel green that is similar in depth and tone to Crayola's magic mint. Superabundant pearly pink shimmers give it a creamy, nacreous sheen and a pale pink effervescence along the axis of light, and it has a dimensional luminosity on the nail that reminds me of fine silk satin.

Application was dreamy. The consistency of Peace on Earth is fluid, full-bodied and super creamy with a medium viscosity and a lux, buttery, self-leveling glide over the nail. It has remarkably even coverage for a shimmery pastel shade and provides uniform opacity in two coats without streaks or brushmarks. To lessen the appearance of my nail ridges in the photos, I added a third coat, but would happily wear it at two otherwise. Cleanup is easy. Peace on Earth dries naturally in average time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat intensifies the presence and effects of the shimmers.

Photos show three coats of Peace on Earth over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and KBShimmer Fillin' Groovy basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The base color has a blue cast to my eye in these pics -- in person, it is more unambiguously green. This is an astonishingly beautiful polish in person, more so than a photo can show. I had one coat on my nails and found my mouth opening into a jaw-drop of wonderment and admiration, complete with silent "oh WOW!" The effervescent pink shimmers give the base a certain vitreous translucent quality, and their contrast with the milky green, the exquisite creamy sheen and the resplendent glow of this polish on the nail create an almost visceral sense of luxury. Extraordinary!

love,
Liz

  1. It does look lovely! I think YSL PG had a slightly yellower tint to the green - I tried duping it using Models Own Indian Ocean over a variety of bases, and it was impossible to find just the right match. I got quite close, but all my mints were too blue-based. Indian Ocean was a great dupe for the peachy-pink shimmer, though!

Emily de Molly also has a PG dupe called Pending Perfection which I'd love to see side to side with POE and the original too!

    1. I've only ever seen photographs of YSL Peace Green, but I do have Pending Perfection, which I featured here towards the end of July this year (https://lacquerslackerliz.blogspot.com/2016/07/emily-de-molly-pending-perfection.html) and you commented at the time about the similarity to Peace Green. Peace on Earth is actually greener than it looks in my photos, but the base and shimmer colors in Pending Perfection are a little brighter and pop a little more. They definitely share that lux, monied feel, though.

I lusted after Models Own Indian Ocean every time I saw it, almost bought it on several occasions but never did. It is gorgeous. I used to layer polishes all the time, but lately not so much. I'm not as experimental with polishes as I used to be!

    2. Ooh, I don't suppose you could do a side by side comparison shot of PP and PoE? Then send me the swatch sticks (!) and I'll put them next to PG! :)

    3. Hmm. I'm not quite sure where Pending Perfection is at the moment, but for you, I will look for it. Stay tuned! :)

  2. Polish lust... Yep, I got #grabbyhands for this! I wanted that YSL SO BAD! Quite a few makers came sooooo close to it, but never quite got there - there was always that just a little off thing that kept me from getting it. I did end up with the Ever After offering, 2 Peace In a Pod, which seems kinda close - hard to really tell since I've never seen the real deal irl. This one doesn't seem to have as much pink shimmer, or is just my eyes? Sigh, as with other fabled polishes, I am left to wonder why they cannot be perfectly duped! :)
And I wonder if the Spring polishes soon to come out will continue this quest, or go on to a new lemming polish!

    1. My photos of this one were taken on a very overcast day, so they are more muted than the polish appears in person. Kelly of Vampy Varnish has a better photo of it in her review of this collection -- http://www.vampyvarnish.com/2016/12/pretty-serious-ghosts-christmas-past/# -- where she says she likes it BETTER than the YSL because the shimmer is brighter and the base is more opaque. Two other dupish lacquers that are still available are Color's by Llarowe's Rendered Speechless -- http://www.llarowe.com/cbl-rendered-speechless.html -- and ILNP's Valentina -- http://www.ilnp.com/valentina.html -- both of which seem a little too cyanic in their photos but you never know.

Personally, I think you would love Peace on Earth, Lara. Keep in mind that the color is more green and the shimmer more prolific than my pics. The formula is lovely and creamy and goes on beautifully. Give it a try!

    2. One more YSL Peace Green type polish that's still available and I forgot to mention: Emily de Molly Pending Perfection -- http://emily-de-molly.myshopify.com/collections/nail-polish/products/pending-perfection-presale -- more green and a little brighter than the others I listed, featured in my post at https://lacquerslackerliz.blogspot.com/2016/07/emily-de-molly-pending-perfection.html.

    3. Thank you, Liz! I looked at the PS site a while back and it was still sold out. I imagine she will restock it and I might get it then, and be done with this YSL PG lemming! I don't want to end up with a lot of similar, like I did with the Starry Starry Night polishes!
