Cirque Killer Kitsch

Killer Kitsch was released at the end of April by NYC-based indie polish maker Cirque Colors as part of the Kawaii collection. Officially described as "a hot pink holographic," the color is a vibrant medium-dark rosy pink along the lines of French rose, with aspects of cerise and raspberry. Abundant finely-milled violet shimmers blend their color with rosy base to create a cooler sheen of hot pink along the axis of light, adding a nice dimensionality to the look. The holographic effects are somewhat subdued in ambient light, but create a slightly scattered linear prismatic display in the sun predominated by a sparkling arc of bright red.

Application was a pleasure. The consistency of Killer Kitsch is fluid and smooth with a medium viscosity and a plush, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good. A touch of sheerness to the first coat builds easily to evenly opaque coverage with the second. Cleanup is easy. Killer Kitsch dries naturally in good time to a smooth, shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Killer Kitsch over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I love the pretty, feminine look of rosy pink polish and this is a particularly lovely one. The rosy appearance is actually a blend of deeper reddish-pinks in the base with the violet shimmers, a sophisticated, crafted approach that works beautifully. The color is flirty and animated, with a youthful glow from the hot pink sheen. Very nice!

love,
Liz

  1. I read a couple of blogger's premature comments on what they thought of the Cirque re-branding, and was amazed to hear that they were going to stop buying Cirque. I've yet to make any sense of *why* they would make such a bold & idiotic statement, especially since they'd not yet had the luxury of sinking their digits in this re-branded, inaugural collection.
This polish is a stunning gorgeous one!! Thank you for reviewing Cirque's polishes :-)

    1. Now that's a pretty extreme reaction to a packaging change. Kind of petty, too. Cut your nose off to spite your face, much? I loved the old packaging myself, especially the calligraphic initial "C" logo, and wasn't immediately impressed with the changes Annie made, but it's her business and she wouldn't have made those changes arbitrarily. She knows what she's doing!

One thing I do miss very much, though, is her now discontinued habit of scenting her polishes with clary sage and lavender essential oils. It was such a singular pleasure to smell that sweet, floral scent during a manicure!
