Top Shelf Lacquer I Don't Give a Sip

Like Liquid Courage, I Don't Give a Sip was released in March this year by Ohio-based indie polish maker Top Shelf Lacquer as part of the Neon Lights (2017) collection. Described as a "coral red with turquoise shimmer," the color is a medium-light neon variation of vermilion with strong orange overtones, kind of like a red-orange or a coquelicot shade. In its neon form, it comes off as very orange at the outset, but once your eye becomes accustomed to the astonishing fluorescence, it becomes creamier, more sherbety and more approachable, and the pinkish-red coral aspects are easier to see. Ultrafine pale turquoise shimmers, activated by topcoat, give it a dreamy, soft-focus sheen and further enhance the coral-esque qualities of the color.

Application was great! The consistency of I Don't Give a Sip is fluid, light and creamy with a thin-to-medium viscosity and an easy, smooth, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good. Two coats will deliver evenly opaque coverage on short nails with smooth nail beds, but longer nails and irregular nail beds may need three, which is what I used for this manicure. Cleanup is easy. I Don't Give a Sip dries naturally in good time to a smooth, flat finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best. Topcoat also accentuates the presence and effects of the shimmers.

Photos show three coats of I Don't Give a Sip over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and KBShimmer Fillin' Groovy basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is a fantastic summertime color, no? As a neon, it has a dimensional, creamy quality that sets it apart from other neon corals, making it a little softer and more wearable for those who may feel that neons are too stark or too severe. But it's still very, very bright! My pasty pinkage is probably not the best showcase -- I imagine it would be divine on richer skin tones and absolutely incredible with a tan.

love,
Liz

  1. I was drooling well before I got to the pics this time....Orange is my favourite colour, but not one that I sport on my nails often; this coral-orange-red-with-stealthy-shimmer puppy is To Die For!

I wish with all my heart that every single nail blogger that posts for any brand's PR department would read a dozen or twenty or your posts before they EVER put another post up on the Webz. "It's a bright coral creme and I [heart] it...." just don't cut it, LOL!

Amazing - and informative!! - post, as always!

    1. You are the best reader ever, Cath!

I love it when bloggers include personal observations about color so I always do my best to describe what I see. That aspect is my favorite part of writing about polish and the one I most enjoy.

This polish is really quite dreamy for a neon! Feels great on the nail, too!
