Cirque Tangerine Dream

Tangerine Dream was created by Annie of NYC-based indie polish maker Cirque Colors as part of an exclusive, limited edition Icon Duo for the Nordstrom Pop-In Shop event that ran from November 2015-January 2016. Officially described as a "spicy orange holographic," the color is a gorgeous variation of persimmon with aspects of burnt orange and tomato. It's a stunningly rich and resonant shade, all the more so since it's augmented with abundant finely-milled holographic pigment, which gives it a shimmering, dimensional appearance on the nail. Direct sun generates a delicate but fully linear prismatic display.

Application was excellent. The consistency of Tangerine Dream is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a smooth, easy, self-leveling slip over the nail, a fabulous formula just as you would expect from Cirque. Pigmentation is excellent. It's pretty much a one-coater, although I think the addition of a second coat makes for a slightly richer look. Cleanup is easy. Tangerine Dream dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Tangerine Dream over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

NPR Blast from the past: this polish shares its name with the venerable German electronic music collective Tangerine Dream, whose trippy 1975 album Rubycon made a huge impression on me as a teen. My friends and I used to listen to it at full volume by the light of a single candle, basically hypnotizing ourselves. Look Ma, no drugs!

Back to the polish, what a fantastic autumnal shade, no? Quintessential! Even though it was limited edition and only available from Nordstrom during the Pop-In event, you can still find it in blog and destash sales, which is how I came across it. I recommend picking it up if you see it, because it totally looks like money on the nail. Rich and cozy, perfect for your fall polish wardrobe, and you can't beat the formula with a stick. Love!

Liz
