Butter London Trout Pout

Trout Pout was released by Butter London as part of its Spring/Summer collection in spring 2012. Described as an "opaque cantaloupe" by Butter London, this is basically a medium-light milky but vivid pinky salmon coral creme that varies its appearance depending on skin tone and lighting. It runs a gamut from near neon pinkish orange to bright milky carnation to peachy melon to pale creamy retro pink with a hint of coral. My favorite iteration is the last one, a creamy warm pink with hints of coral and salmon. The only catch is that to get that look my hands must be bathed in the light of the open refrigerator. *lol* Against my skin tone in natural light, the predominant hue is a vivid warm pink with overtones of rose and tangerine.

Application was ok. The consistency of this polish is thick and creamy and it likes to go on in medium coats. There is a considerable amount of white in this color with a corresponding streakiness in the first coat especially. It isn't chalky, though, and despite the thick formula it has a nice flow over the nail. If it self-leveled a little better I could have gotten away with two coats and I think folks with more application finesse would be fine with two. Pigmentation is very good, but I had some nails with noticeably uneven coverage at two coats so I did three and then a topcoat of Seche Vite, which worked its magic to make everything smooth and even. On its own, Trout Pout dries naturally in average time to a glossy finish.

Photos show three coats of Trout Pout over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite to even out the coverage and hasten drying.

This polish definitely has a by-the-pool Floridian quality and would probably be absolutely gorgeous against tanned skin, either tips or toes. I don't think it's at its best against my pale pinkage, but I love it nonetheless. I'd never have guessed by looking at the bottle that it would have such a high voltage presence on the nail. Cool!

love,
Liz

  1. I really like this color! It's so bright and happy. I tan easily during the summer and this is definitely a polish I see myself wearing while at the beach or even when I'm outside by the pool.
