Hare Polish Swanky Soiree over Zoya Kelly

Swanky Soiree was released by Hare Polish as part of its limited edition holiday duo. It is a medium-dark battleship grey jelly glitter polish with red and gunmetal hex and square glitters in a variety of sizes plus silver shimmers. I happen to adore the combination of grey and red, it makes my eyes happy, but even if the combination of colors and components is a little outside of your comfort zone this is still a fun polish with a sense of humor to it that doesn't take itself too seriously but is elegantly composed and beautiful on the nail all the same.

In the description of Swanky Soiree, Nikole mentions that it can be layered over a base color such as China Glaze Recycle to ensure complete opacity. Since I don't own that polish, I began this manicure with a quick one-coat base of Zoya Kelly, another dark creamy grey. It is slightly darker than the base of Swanky Soiree but still serves well as a base for that polish.

Swanky Soiree applies easily and smoothly with a good representation of glitter components in each brushful that disperse evenly over the nail. I had a few instances of glitter stacking and protrusion over the free edge, but nothing that I was unable to remedy with a bit of careful manipulation with the brush. Swanky Soiree dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish with a slight detectable texture from the glitters it contains.

Photos show two coats of Swanky Soiree over a coat of Zoya Kelly over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite followed by a topcoat of Poshe for extra shine and a glassy finish.

As I mentioned before, I totally dig the combination of colors in this polish. The mixture of cool dark grey with pops of bright red really ticks my boxes, and I love the added visual texture of the gunmetal glitters and the scattered small silvery shimmers.

Fuzzy took a look at it and said, oh I don't know, that looks a little sinister.... *lol* I think the Fuzz, being a painter, reacts emotionally to polish composition as if it was already up on one of the large canvases she uses. Nail polish is simpler than that, being more of a collage of elements and, on the part of those who wear it, a decorative rather than creative expression. Of course, it can become creative when paired with dress and make up. But for me, it is something less serious, more playful. A temporary costume for my nails donned for my own pleasure and enjoyment.

And I do enjoy Swanky Soiree! It's outside of the box in terms of what you'd usually consider a holiday oriented polish to be, which not only makes it wearable for any occasion at any point in the calender but also lets you know that it doesn't take itself too seriously. And that's something I can definitely appreciate!

love,
Liz

  1. This is one of my favorite Hares ever! It's not too holiday, and it has a little bit of a edgy modern look to it. I like that you layered it over Kelly, it makes the red glitters really pop!

    1. I love it too! I agree that it has an edgy modern vibe, I think that must be what gives it the air of insouciance that it has... kind of devil-may-care, you know?

  2. I have this one and I really should wear it, especially after seeing your beautiful pictures of it. I actually have yet to wear any of the Hares I've bought, which is crazy, since they are gorgeous, so I should totally change that. Anyway, this one looks great over a darker grey!
