OPI DS Extravagance

DS Extravagance was released by OPI as part of the Designer Series collection for fall 2008. Originally described as a "glittering glamorous magenta," DS Extravagance is actually a bit more purple than that, sort of a deep fuchsia, pinkish burgundy or red-violet berry color filled with relatively large-sized scattered silvery holographic particles that enrich the color with a gorgeous dimensional prismatic glow. The radiant bloom of nuanced color produced by the scattered holo effect gives this beautiful polish that splendid, dramatic lit-from-within look where it appears lighter along the axis of light and deepens towards the edges. The individual holo particles are easily visible and read as silvery flecks in the shade, transforming to a rainbow of prismatic pointillist sparks at the introduction of light.

This polish applies like the sweetest of a polish enthusiast's dreams. The consistency is fluid, creamy and dense with a perfect balance of fluidity and viscosity for painting. It has a velvety, effortless glide over the nail with excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is also excellent. DS Extravagance is very nearly a one-coater, leaving only a slight translucence at the free edge when backlit. Two coats deliver completely even, opaque coverage. Cleanup is fairly straightforward, although I wish I'd been a little more thorough with mine as there is some residual color left at the cuticle that could possibly have been removed with a few additional passes of the cleanup brush. DS Extravagance dries naturally in good time to a silky smooth finish that is enhanced by the addition of a glossy topcoat.

Photos show two coats of DS Extravagance over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I adore the scattered holo pigment in this polish, how the individual particles are large enough to read as distinct colors refracting through the base into the pinks, reds, and purples that together produce the analogous prismatic bloom that makes this polish so flippin' gorgeous!

DS Extravagance is easy to find on ebay for reasonable prices. That's how I got mine. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable seller.

love,

  1. Completely and utterly perfect on you! I have recently amassed a decent collection of DS because my Ulta had several marked down to $2!! But this wasn't one of them. :/

    1. Thank you, my dear!

Oh, I'm so jealous! You absolutely snapped them up, no? And why not at that incredible price! Well fear not, this polish comes around quite frequently on ebay and I imagine it would also on blog sales and what not. I think the fact that its scattered and not linear makes it less desireable in the eyes of some polish enthusiasts. That's the only reason I can think of to account for its availability compared to other DS polishes. If I come across it on ebay I'll grab it for you!
