Zoya Sooki

Sooki was released as part of Zoya's Summertime collection for summer 2011. Zoya describes it as a "bright, clean, crisp cool cherry red cream with a subtle jelly finish." Spot on! Sookie is a satisfyingly-saturated unmolested medium cadmium red creme/jelly hybrid, a simple bright red that leans slightly cool in natural lighting and slightly warm in artifical lighting. Its slight translucence zhuzhes up the fresh energy of the red, giving it a universal appeal. It's a color that anyone could love, and most do.

The consistency of Sooki is quite liquid, not as dense as I personally prefer but I've got shaky hands and Sooki is a cuticle stainer. That said, the viscosity is more than adequate and the polish goes where you put it and stays there. It is supremely self-leveling and gives smooth even coverage. If you have unstained nails with a shorter length, one coat is all you'll need. Two coats for longer nails, those with a marked difference in color between nail bed and nail tip or if there is staining from previous polishes. Dry time is slightly longer than average, probably due to the jelly-esque nature of this polish. Sooki dries naturally to a glossy finish.

Photos show two coats of Sooki over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite to protect from smudges and hasten the drying process. Apologies for the tendrils of red that I missed during clean up, and for the few dirt specks that I somehow managed to pick up simply by walking out of the house. What's up with that?

I've vacillated on whether the photos are color accurate between thinking that they show a bit more tomato than cherry and thinking that they're true to how the color looks in person. Right now, on my imac screen, they look true to me.

Sooki is a house favorite here. Fuzzy was a bit put out when I removed this polish to apply another... "oh, where's the red one? what happened to the red? I liked the red...." And even John seemed to cotton to it. At least, he didn't ask me if it was Liberace's polish like he did the other day when I was wearing China Glaze I'm Not Lion. I came down to the kitchen to show him I'm Not Lion under the halogens and he almost dropped his coffee cup. *lol* I enjoy it so much when my nail polish startles a loved one.

I have to say, Sooki is a favorite with me too. It's loud and beautiful and exuberant. It's right up there with America as my favorite reds from Zoya.

love,
Aunt Liz
