Polish enthusiasts seem to agree that Eye of Copernicus was inspired by, at least in part, Essie's legendary Starry Starry Night, now long discontinued and almost impossible to find. Currently on ebay there is a lot of two polishes, Chanel Jade and the aforementioned Essie Starry Starry Night, that is available for a buy-it-now price of $700. That's the kind of draw these lacquers possess! But, hey, no worries! Now we have the gorgeous Eye of Copernicus to ring our starry night bells! This is a deep midnight blue jelly bearing the perfect amount of tiny silver microglitters for twinkling from within the inky depths like stars in the night sky. The effect is quite stunning. Layered in the polish, the microglitters appear blue as well as silver, and send out random tiny sparks as they are hit by light. It is mysterious and intensely elegant on the nail, with a glamorous plump glossy finish.
Application was a delight. The consistency of Eye of Copernicus is fluid and smooth with a perfect balance of fluidity and viscosity for precise painting. It is almost effortlessly manipulated with Pretty Serious' round flexible brush, with a wonderful silky flow over the nail and outstanding self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is excellent for a jelly, with completely even opaque coverage in only two coats. Cleanup is surprisingly easy for a polish this pigmented with only a tiny bit of pigment travel and no residual staining. Eye of Copernicus dries in average time to a beautiful glossy finish.
Photos show two coats of Eye of Copernicus over Seche Rebuild treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

It looks very close to black in my photos but in bright direct light the translucent jelly formula allows light to penetrate and bring up the blue. Under the lights in my gym you could definitely tell that it's a blue polish and man, it looked so gorgeous with the random blue sparks twinkling away! It certainly sweetens my work out when whatever polish I have on looks just fabulous under those lights.
Unless you have an aversion to dark polish, you will enjoy Eye of Copernicus. It's exceptional formula is such a pleasure to apply and the look has a stealthy drama that endears it to the wearer. At least, it does for me!
love,
Liz
Say yes to stealthy drama.
ReplyDeleteThat's the message, Fuzzy!
DeleteI think this is such a fun premise for a collection, and a brilliant one too, as people still yearn for these long-discontinued polishes. I for sure need The Dragon's Curse in my life :) I expect we'll see Chanel Jade in an upcoming collection, it being the holy grail of all Naileontology, and while there are several dupes out there but I would be super on board with one that had a more opaque formulation.
ReplyDeleteMarisa, you will have The Dragon's Curse in your life, and Eye of Copernicus as well! My order was double shipped so I've added bottles of these two to your box. Which I must say is getting quite full. Either I will have to send it soon or find a bigger box! When are you due back in Portland?
DeleteDouble shipped?! Happy day!!!! You are an angel <3 I actually arrived back in Portland last Monday, but have been incognito the last week as Kellen and I explored Portland for his spring break :) :) :)
DeleteHaha, oh, boxes! I kinda just filled your box, and for those polishes missing the boat was like, well, next time, little fellas ;)
