Too Fancy Lacquer Lake Como

Lake Como was released by Hong Kong-based indie polish maker Too Fancy Lacquer as part of the Blossoming collection for spring 2014 in April of that year. It's a lovely light sky or pool blue linear holo, a serene cyanic shade that is unmuddied and fresh. The lightened color of this polish keeps the holo effects on the subtle side, but they are never the less quite responsive even in dim indirect light. In direct sun the beautiful aqua color intensifies and a neat, precisely delineated prismatic flair sparkles over a gleaming central flash of semi-metallic pale silvery green.

Application was Too Fancy awesome! The consistency of Lake Como is fluid, light and very smooth with a silky glide over the nail and outstanding self-leveling properties -- the eminently user-friendly formula that my experiences with this brand have taught me to expect. Pigmentation is excellent with near opacity in one coat and completely even opaque coverage in two. I had to add a third coat after an unfortunate series of events involving a child-proof prescription bottle, the cat and and my exaggerated startle response (you don't want to know) left a couple of marred nails in its wake, but the agreeable formula of this polish permitted easy fixes and the third coat made no difference to the look of the polish. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with no pigment travel or residual staining. Lake Como dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that loves the gloss of a good topcoat.

Photos show three coats of Lake Como over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Lake Como is a nice low-key linear holo in a very pretty color that's cool and breezy on the nail with a tranquil, optimistic vibe. I'd call it a soft bright. The name conjures up thoughts of the relaxing spas and venerable airy villas that surround it's namesake in northern Italy.

If wishes were horses then I'd be cleaning stalls all day long. Wearing this polish is probably as close as I'll ever get to this gorgeous place but there's no harm in thinking about it, right?

love,
Liz

  1. Another yet-to-try... oh la la! Thank you for these nudges to explore my own collection; it's gorgeous! That sun shot though O.o There's a Lake Como just an hour and a half south of Missoula in the Bitterroot Valley, and I've been there a few times a long time ago but googling just it now, I realize that I had no recollection of how gorgeous it is... I think I'll have to take a day trip this summer!! And I will be wearing this polish :) When I first bought it, I admit my first immediate thought was that it was in reference to the Montana lake and had forgotten about the Italian namesake completely, haha. So silly.

    1. With a Lake Como in Montana, why would you think of Italy? You're a Montana girl through and through! This will look so pretty on you, Marisa!
