Application was lovely! The consistency of Fuchsure Drive Me Insane is fluid, creamy and dense but quite amenable to thin coats, with a full-bodied glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is very good with opaque coverage in two coats. I used three for this manicure to ensure completely even opacity as I have an annoying tendency to paint unevenly. Cleanup is tasky, not because of the base but oh those little glass flecks, they stick like limpets! I tried my best but some of them just refused to budge. Fuchsure Drive Me Insane dries naturally in very good time to a slick, shiny finish.

I love the way the name of this polish relates to the title of the collection, Gaslighted -- so cheeky! Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse in which false information is presented to the victim with the intent of making him/her doubt his/her own memory and perception. The term owes its origin to the 1938 play Gas Light by British dramatist Patrick Hamilton (itself a subtle retelling of the Bluebeard folk tale), and the film adaptations that followed, after which it was coined popularly.
I think a case can be made that Fuchsure Drive Me Insane itself is a clever form of nail polish gaslighting. The contrast of the warm purple base with the cool sparkling blue glass flecks creates a delicious tension on the nail that elicits doubt as to which color you should be looking at, a kind of polish-induced vertigo where you flip your hands on your wrists palm to back, palm to back over and over, seeking a balance of color and shine -- and still it eludes you! My favorite way of viewing this polish on my nails is at arm's length, with my fingers outstretched. At that distance, the blue rides perfectly over the purple in a beautiful, ethereal glow. Any closer and I'm back to hand flips.

Ohh la, you've really captured the poetry of the glassfleck in your pictures. I think I skipped this one because I thought I had something exactly like it, but I'm honestly starting to question my own judgement, haha. I haven't tried my Gaslight beauties yet but they are all delightfully lovely... I can't even name a favorite, though Figmint of My Reality has particularly acrobatic shimmer shifts. Your serene swatches really illustrate the blue-veiled orchidian subtlety that brighter swatches without macro missed. I always thought that this looked like a lighter, pinker version of Formula X for Sephora "Hyped", and it kind of does but the glassfleck is more marine and expressive, I think. Brava, darling!

DeleteI really need to get myself to a Sephora and check out some of these Formula X polishes with my own two eyes. The examples I've seen in the polish blogs have been very seductive, but I've been overwhelmed by the abundance of different kinds of finishes that they offer. Maybe seeing them in person will give me a better grasp of the brand.
Oh yes, it definitely would help! They also have clear tester strips that are fantastic for trying out formula, and colors with skintones, without ruining your existing mani. I like to go in and just start swiping swatches all over those little plastic sheets, it is great fun! :) Alternatively, I have been able to pick up certain phased-out Formula X shades (it's been glitters mostly with some cremes and such) from TJMaxx/Marshall's/Ross, which is great because they're not exactly cheap and never really go on sale. And I always love a bargain!
