KBShimmer Alloy Matey!
The name of this polish is Alloy Matey! -- with exclamation mark -- but I'll be omitting the exclamation mark in the body of this post.
Alloy Matey is the last of my KBShimmer Summer 2015 collection purchases. I passed it up originally but went back for it piecemeal after reading a great review, I forget which one, that ended with the oft-included entreaty "you NEED this polish!" I certainly did.
I'm happy that I did succumb to suggestion with this polish because it really is a fantastically blingy, totally fun full-coverage glitterbomb with the additional versatility to layer over and dress up another polish. Christy, owner and creative force behind KBShimmer, describes it as micro and fine silver holographic glitters suspended in a clear base. I used it layered as an accent nail with Essie Master Plan on my friend Tory when we were working up a look for her brother's wedding and it turned out beautifully, a perfect little bit of bling to cap a soft, neutral manicure. So pretty on her delicate hands and nails! For this post I went with a full on glitterbomb manicure. Suffice to say, it's awesome! The tiniest bit of light in the environment provokes scores of tiny sparks in rainbow colors from the silvery glitters, and in direct sun, well, the bling is mind-blowing. Just an explosion of color and light!
Application was lovely. The consistency of Alloy Matey is fluid and smooth, with an easy, self-leveling flow over the nail and absolutely no glitter stacking. The suspension base is a little thicker than a regular polish and I added some thinner to keep it within my viscosity comfort zone, but I had no issues with application and needed only a little cleanup, which I did as I went along. Removing any stray glitters is much easier when the polish is still wet because after they dry, they're like sticky little limpets. Coverage is sheer and even enough at one coat to use as a topper but builds quickly to wearable coverage at two coats and completely opaque coverage at three. To be sure I hid the polish stains on my nails, I used three for this manicure. Alloy Matey dries naturally in very good time to a gently textured finish (no glitter grit here) that is easily smoothed with a generous layer of topcoat.
Photos show three coats of Alloy Matey over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. I could not capture the dynamic nature of the holo glitter in my photos, so keep in mind that what you see here is exponentially more sparkly and colorful in person.

I was very glad I was wearing this when I went to the gym because the air conditioning was out. It was 87°F and soul-crushingly humid in there but my manicure looked so fabulous under those lights that it perked me up enough to get through my work out. Then I almost drove off the road on the way home because I was so enchanted by it in the sun... oops!
Ok, I'm not going to tell you that you NEED this, but it's gorgeous and endlessly entertaining and where else can you get that combo for life (or at least a couple of years) for only $8.75?
love,
Liz
