ILNP Paper Route

Today's feature from boutique polish maker ILNP is Paper Route, recently released as a Summer 2015 addition to ILNP's Ultra Holo lineup of polishes. This is a delicate pale translucent grey bearing both small particle and larger flake holographic pigments. The achromatic grey is milky and luminous, paler than a silver, more like a Gainsboro grey. In indirect light, the holographic effects appear to emanate from within the polish. Small, glowing sparks of color travel up and down the nail as you move it, looking for all the world like a dainty Coober Pedy opal. So special and unique! In direct light, the surface glistens with soft prismatic sparkle. There isn't a defined holographic flame per se, but all of the rainbow colors are represented and bloom in gentle organic flare-like patterns relative to the angle of light.

Application was lovely. Once again ILNP delivers a fabulous, eminently paintable formula. The consistency of Paper Route is fluid, light and creamy with a silky slip over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. As this polish is translucent, opacity must be built over multiple layers. I used three medium coats for evenly opaque coverage. You can see the luminous quality of the polish increase with the addition of each coat, it's quite magical. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Paper Route dries naturally in good time to a smooth, shiny finish.

Photos show three coats of Paper Route over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

So lovely! Paper Route has the most delicious translucent look to it, no? I know that creator Barbra intentionally adjusted down the opacity for this polish's formula in order for the holographic pigments to show to best effect, and I think it's just perfect!

I believe this exquisite grey opal holo would make a wonderful bridal polish, and I know just the bride who might wear it. My friend Tory is wearing a pale grey gown for her wedding in October, and this is exactly the sort of polish to complement both the gown and her magnificent, diamond encrusted ring. I'm going to show it to her when we meet to work out today, so we'll see what she thinks. Otherwise I'm not looking forward to cardio or much of anything else in that hot humid gym. The management had to order a part for the ancient old air conditioner, probably from Antarctica because it has taken forever to get here. They've informed us that this part is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow and that the ac should be fixed by the end of the day. Sounds like "the check's in the mail" to me.

love,
Liz

  1. Well this wasn't even on my wishlist but it sure is now! I've been fascinated by opals lately (and I've always been in love with moonstones), and you're so right, the holo rainbows glowing through the milky translucency is so opaline and lovely! I love that this polish seems to have a glowing rosy radiance in the center, as evident from your macro shot; whatever it is, there is just enough warm radiant something to keep the pale gray from becoming flat and frigid. Beautiful!

    1. This one's a sleeper, you wouldn't think such a pale holo would be so fascinating but it is. I was totally smitten with this once I had it on my nails. Definitely recommended! I gave my bottle to the bride-to-be I mentioned in my last paragraph, who took an immediate liking to it when I wore it to the gym. Sleek and demure but sparkly in the right light, it's a beauty!
