Indigo Bananas Event Horizon Holo

Event Horizon Holo was released by indie polish maker Indigo Bananas as a new addition to the Chrome Flakies collection last month. This is a sister polish to Accretion Disk Holo and Galactic Halo Holo, featured here in December and January, respectively. As spectacular as those two polishes are, I think I like Event Horizon Holo best of all.

This polish features superabundant irregularly-shaped multichrome flakes shifting in the blue-green to purple spectrum together with finely-milled holographic pigment in a transparent suspension base. The holo in this polish is quite strong, so holographic effects to some degree can be seen in almost any kind of light with a stunning sparkly fully linear prismatic display in direct sun. Bolstering the rainbow sparks of the holo pigment are jewel-like flashes of color from the multichromatic flakies, which intensify the holographic experience to a dimensional sparkling tapestry of hues. The predominant shade of this polish on the nail is a beautiful semi-metallic medium-light oceanic blue green in a spectacular mini-mosaic of tiny flakies, each contributing its own reflective flash of color: teal, blue, pink, violet, turquoise, gold, mint, bright green. The shift to purple can be seen around the edges of the nail generally and elsewhere at oblique angles.

Application was great! The consistency of Event Horizon Holo is slightly thicker than the other two Chrome Flakies I've experienced, but not overly so and not to the point of being sticky or goopy. It has a fluid, smooth flow over the nail despite being dense with flakies and excellent self-leveling properties. I had a few instances of some of the larger sized flakies stacking and sticking up, but by and large they went on smoothly and lay flat against the nail. Like its sisters, Event Horizon Holo thickens a bit with exposure to air and I added some polish thinner to my bottle to keep the thickening to a minimum. This polish relies completely on its components for coverage, but their density is such that complete opacity can be achieved in only two coats. I used three for this manicure just to be sure to get the full flakie experience, but the third coat really wasn't necessary in terms of opacity.

I did my cleanup as I went along while the polish was still wet to avoid accruing a huge crop of rogue flakies dispersing across my nail environs, but discovered while editing the photos that I missed a few even so. It seems like I always miss SOMETHING during cleanup! Event Horizon Holo dries naturally to a smooth, semi-metallic finish. Topcoat doesn't affect the shine of the polish, which is naturally reflective but not chrome-like, nor does it diminish the holographic properties at all.

Photos show three coats of Event Horizon Holo over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. To show the many faces of this chameleon polish I've included more than my usual number of pics. I know, I always have too many photos.

If there were ever polishes made to be scrutinized at close quarters, these Chrome Flakies are it. Event Horizon grows in coolness exponentially the closer you look. I've said it before, but it bears repeating here that as much as I admire regular multichrome polishes, multichrome flakie polishes are way cooler to me. I am enthralled by the way all the little variously shaped pieces fit into and over each other and find the exquisite geometry of this kind of visual texture irresistible. It reminds me of stained glass sculpture, especially when dusted by the rainbow sparks of color generated by holographic pigment as in this polish.

It's multichromatic flakie holo fabulousness, is what!

love,
Liz

  1. I disagree; one can never have too many pictures of a beauty this complex!! This is unbelievable. I tried my best to ignore the siren call of your Galactic Halo post back when I was feeling the need to scale back on my winter polish accruement, but you are making it darn hard to resist... :) Simply fabulous on you!! I am surprised with myself that I have managed to stave off the desperate need for multichrome flakies so long... probably because at the moment I am quite caught up with lust for the last three Glam Polish collections <3

    1. Ha! For what it's worth, Marisa, I think Indigo Bananas will be stocking these Chrome Flakie polishes for a while, whereas Glam Polish collections seem to disappear long before I'm ready for them to be gone. I'm still pining over that serial collection, I can't remember what it was called but there was a part one and a part two. Whatever it was, I'm kind of heartbroken that I didn't go ahead and purchase some of them because the way things are now I'm overwhelmed by the assortment of gorgeous Glams available -- I wouldn't be able to pick out specifics to buy if my life depended on it. Damn that Glam!

That aside, I think that your aptitude for attentiveness to details would get a lovely satisfying scratch from the Indigo Bananas Chrome Flakie polishes. I definitely recommend them over other multichromatic flakies that I've experienced for their ease of application, excellent coverage and wonderful mixtures of color....

    2. Hahaha, DAMN THAT GLAM indeed!! I have a feeling- no, a certain conviction- that I will be thinking this every single time they post a new tempting picture. I've literally been checking every day for the Midwinter's Dream collection to go on sale... I simply refuse to miss it. But the surge of need that spools up in my color-loving heart when I do little more than scroll down their page is kind of terrifying, and yes, overwhelming!!

The ILNP flakies would be the others, yes? I drooled over all of those swatches you did, layered to opacity as they were, but I seem to recall you mentioning that this was no small feat, and they did appear more textured than this sleek rainbow perfection up in here. I can't even keep track of all the others doing multichromatic flakies, it was such an explosion these past few months...
