ILNP Diablo

Diablo was released by boutique polish maker I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) as part of the Fall 2015 collection early this month. Creator Barbra describes the chameleon qualities of this polish:
The finish of Diablo is primarily an oxblood red however, depending on your lighting conditions and the number of coats used, it may appear to travel from oxblood red, to a brick red, through to a burgundy, and even plum in appearance.
In the bright light of midmorning, Diablo has a decidedly burgundy read on my nails. The deep, densely saturated carmine jelly base has undertones of plum and carries a liberal dose of medium to large flecky holographic particles as well as finely milled shimmers in red and copper. Direct sun elicits a beautiful scattered prismatic effect, veiling the base color with bright sparks of every rainbow color. It shares the look with the copper and red shimmers, which generate a blanket of brilliant red sparkle from deep within the polish when the light hits them just right, an effect that is also visible in low incandescent light where the base color deepens to oxblood. In indirect light, the holo flecks give the polish a silvery speckled demeanor with a subtle scintillating twinkle as light plays over the nail.

Application was wonderful. Once again, a stellar formula from ILNP. The consistency of Diablo is fluid, light and smooth with an effortless, self-leveling glide over the nail. It's amenable to thin or thicker coats, does not run or pool and is easily manipulated with ILNP's flattened flexible brush. I found the pigmentation a bit stronger in this polish than the other jelly holos I've tried from this collection, with eminently wearable coverage in two medium coats. I added a third to ensure most uniform opacity for the photos, but would happily wear it at two otherwise. Cleanup is fairly straightforward, with more pigment travel than I've seen from the others but little residual staining. Diablo dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties of this polish in any way.

Photos show three coats of Diablo over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

If you love your dark reds for fall and winter or just any time, this one is for YOU! The scattered holo is wonderful against this deep rich color, and the red and copper shimmers make it extra special.

  1. This is very nice. I never get tired of wearing wine/burgundy shades. I reach for them year-round and then start feeling like maybe I shouldn't wear them as much in spring. I'm such a rebel.

    1. Rock that burgundy in April, rebel girl!

The added red and copper shimmers are what I admired most about this polish. I loved seeing those bright red sparks in the deep wine-colored base!
