ILNP Overnight Bag
Overnight Bag was released by boutique polish maker I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) as part of the Fall 2015 collection at the beginning of this month. Creator Barbra describes it as a "dominant espresso brown holographic polish... accented by a precise array of metallic copper flakes." Oh, this is such a gorgeous complex color! It has a deep burnt sienna jelly-ish base, a rich reddish brown with aspects of cordovan and plum, generously sprinkled with larger-sized shardy holographic flecks as well as smaller holographic particles and secret squirrel coppery flake shimmers. On the nail, it reads as a seal brown with luxurious resonant plum/burgundy/raisin nuances, and displays a semi-metallic purpled rose flash at the point of reflection that gleams from deep within the polish. The copper flakes and holo flecks add a subtle but distinct speckled visual texture. Direct sun elicits a semi-metallic chestnut glow from the base and a scattered prismatic response characterized by dazzlingly bright sparks in all the rainbow colors.
Application was a delight. The consistency of Overnight Bag is fluid, light and very smooth with a silky glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. This is a user-friendly formula, amenable to thin or thicker coats and easily manipulated with ILNP's flattened flexible brush. Pigmentation is excellent for a jelly formula with a certain degree of translucence to it. Two coats will net wearable coverage, but I recommend three for fullest depth and richness of color -- that third coat really does make a difference! Cleanup is easy and straightforward with little pigment travel and no residual staining to speak of. Overnight Bag dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not diminish the holographic effects of this polish in any way.

Overnight Bag is a exceptional example of just how classy an artisanally crafted polish can be while still including those special details that give it the intimate, personal touch we love about these lacquers.
There are six of these deep autumnally-oriented jelly-based scattered holos in ILNP's 2015 Fall collection -- After Midnight, Diablo, Lulu, Mountain View, Overnight Bag and Pretty Little Liar. That's quite a few to pick from! Whatever you do, I urge you not to overlook this remarkable creation as simply another brown holo. It's so much more than that, and I'll guarantee that once you have it on your nails, you'll agree.
love,
Liz
Another very lovely wintry color. I'm drawn to raisin-esqe colors when I think I've been overdoing it on the burgundies and wines, haha. It's an elegant color, and the flakes are lovely in it.
ReplyDeleteThis is an extraordinary polish, especially in natural light. At night, under incandescent light, it reads mostly as a dark chocolate brown, which surprised me a little since it's so complex and multi-faceted in daylight. But it still looked rich and fabulous, even if I'm not the biggest chocolate brown aficionado.
DeleteI am so glad I decided to get this polish in the pre-order! I don't have another chocolate (sounds better than brown, right?) polish in my stash. It looks gorgeous on you. I was kinda dreading the fall/winter season because of all the dark polishes. Up to this year, I found such an overload of dark polish rather dreary. I still do prefer spring/summer colors but I am finding myself drawn to these deeper, richer colors now. Now, I just need to advance this one in my lineup of untrieds!
ReplyDeleteI think you will be impressed with this polish, Lara! And at night in lamplight it really does look like chocolate.
